A rather major service for mine today. All fairly straight forward stuff except a cracked reluctor ring causing the ABS to go crazy when on full left lock which I knew about. What I didn't know about was the fuel pump! On changing the fuel filter it appeared that the tank pump was on its last legs and was unable to prime effectively enough to start the car. It had previously been changed for a used one 3 years ago, and managed a further 40,000 miles. New they are around £250 so another used one was sourced and put in the failing ones place.
The cambelt was slighlty overdue, by 9 months and 5000 miles but the water pump was not replaced, they are well known for being robust on these engines and as it wasn't leaking and span freely it seemed unnecessary. The Next service should see it crack the 200,000 mile mark!
Next I will have the wheels refurbed as they are in such a bad state they no longer hold air for longer than 2 weeks.
An easy but worthwhile repair done last week, replacement of the tailgate boot struts. Mine were absolutely knackered, with the plastic ball joints both with lumps of plastic missing. A bit of research showed the OEM of these is Stabilus (part no. 1128SX), and they were the ones to go for, as the boot opens they slow down the last stage so it doesn't fly open and hit the rear window (like my knackered ones were!). I bought a 2nd hand set off ebay only to discover the facelift ones are 30mm shorter so they didn't fit and the boot did'n't fully open! In the end I bit the bullet and bought new off eBay direct from Germany £35 for a pair so not too bad. Quite a satisfying job to do as it was easy and you see instant benefits!

Also I've had a wheel refurb and new centre caps. The paint was flaking off and they were a bit kerbed, to be expected after 15 years. The state of the wheels was constantly causing the tyres to deflate, over the course of around 2 weeks they would go down to about 20 psi. I did have them resealed and they were OK for about 3 months before again they were losing air. Powder coated at a place local to work for £24 a wheel, bargain!
I run winters on one axle and summer on the other and alternate dependant on season, I used to have 2 sets of wheels but can't be bothered with the hassle anymore and now do less that 10k a year in the Volvo. 2 new summer Pirellis have gone on the rear with Nokian WR D3 on the front for their 3rd winter.
After the new wheels, I thought I'd treat her to a £5 wash by the kind men at the local handwash!
Back in love with this car again after thinking of selling. Strangely I discovered at the tyre shop one of the lads said his dads mate used to own the car and that he's a mechanic so would have looked after it!

Looking lovely! Want my wheels doing soon as they look a right state
Actually this has reminded me that I have one question for fellow S60 owners. Do any of you suffer from a "loose" driver's seat? Mine tends to make cracking/clicking noises whenever I change direction, if I stop very harshly then the backrest itself actually moves forward.
Is it meant to do that?! Assuming not, any easy ways to repair these mechanisms? I'm really hoping it's just a few nuts and bolts that have become loose!

Just wondering if anyone has changed their fuel pump before, mine is dead again, car is in the garage over Christmas after breaking down on Wednesday. See the thread here...

I think it's not uncommon. Usually it's the one in the left side of the tank that fails as there are two, one in each side as it's a 'saddle' type. This is assuming it's the same as the V70 anyway. http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthread.php?62942-D...
Mine used to run out of fuel just below a quarter of a tank due to the second fuel pump failing and not transferring fuel from one side to the other. I ended up getting recovered a couple of times.
It's not the easiest of jobs to do as the two pumps are connected inside the tank with an umbilical, ideally you need to feed a cable or similar through the tank as you extract them so you can pull the new one back in.
Obviously if it's different to the V70 ignore all this.
