Welcome back - it was your v70 that convinced me to get my s60. Is this going to be the work car and save the mustang for Sunday best?

Those are 17", the 'Mimas' is a similar 7 spoke style but in 16" nerd

Pic of mine, with the Mimas wheel - a very early D5. Has a different turbo to most, but it must be a good one as its still the original after 189k miles. Keep thinking of getting rid but its just too good at what it does.

Good purchase. I agree about the Euro 3 D5 being one of their high points, I love mine to bits.

I also have a 13 plate 5 series diesel that I walk past to drive the Volvo. I'm either quite mad or the old Swede has something going for it.

Check those 15" wheels will clear your brakes. My D5 has the larger 305mm brakes and the 16"s only just clear the calipers.

I don't think all D5s have the bigger brakes though, mine is a bit of an odd spec.

A rather major service for mine today. All fairly straight forward stuff except a cracked reluctor ring causing the ABS to go crazy when on full left lock which I knew about. What I didn't know about was the fuel pump! On changing the fuel filter it appeared that the tank pump was on its last legs and was unable to prime effectively enough to start the car. It had previously been changed for a used one 3 years ago, and managed a further 40,000 miles. New they are around £250 so another used one was sourced and put in the failing ones place.

The cambelt was slighlty overdue, by 9 months and 5000 miles but the water pump was not replaced, they are well known for being robust on these engines and as it wasn't leaking and span freely it seemed unnecessary. The Next service should see it crack the 200,000 mile mark!

Next I will have the wheels refurbed as they are in such a bad state they no longer hold air for longer than 2 weeks.

Is there an easy way you can identify a car with the 11 speaker option to the Dolby Logic system ? (assuming pics are not good enough to count the speakers).

An easy but worthwhile repair done last week, replacement of the tailgate boot struts. Mine were absolutely knackered, with the plastic ball joints both with lumps of plastic missing. A bit of research showed the OEM of these is Stabilus (part no. 1128SX), and they were the ones to go for, as the boot opens they slow down the last stage so it doesn't fly open and hit the rear window (like my knackered ones were!). I bought a 2nd hand set off ebay only to discover the facelift ones are 30mm shorter so they didn't fit and the boot did'n't fully open! In the end I bit the bullet and bought new off eBay direct from Germany £35 for a pair so not too bad. Quite a satisfying job to do as it was easy and you see instant benefits!

Before...

After...

Also I've had a wheel refurb and new centre caps. The paint was flaking off and they were a bit kerbed, to be expected after 15 years. The state of the wheels was constantly causing the tyres to deflate, over the course of around 2 weeks they would go down to about 20 psi. I did have them resealed and they were OK for about 3 months before again they were losing air. Powder coated at a place local to work for £24 a wheel, bargain!

I run winters on one axle and summer on the other and alternate dependant on season, I used to have 2 sets of wheels but can't be bothered with the hassle anymore and now do less that 10k a year in the Volvo. 2 new summer Pirellis have gone on the rear with Nokian WR D3 on the front for their 3rd winter.
After the new wheels, I thought I'd treat her to a £5 wash by the kind men at the local handwash!

Back in love with this car again after thinking of selling. Strangely I discovered at the tyre shop one of the lads said his dads mate used to own the car and that he's a mechanic so would have looked after it!

Looking lovely! Want my wheels doing soon as they look a right state frown

Actually this has reminded me that I have one question for fellow S60 owners. Do any of you suffer from a "loose" driver's seat? Mine tends to make cracking/clicking noises whenever I change direction, if I stop very harshly then the backrest itself actually moves forward.

Is it meant to do that?! Assuming not, any easy ways to repair these mechanisms? I'm really hoping it's just a few nuts and bolts that have become loose!

Caused my only S60 breakdown, but I've not really seen them mentioned as a weak point.

Usually happens when the car has been owned by a skinflint that runs it with a gallon or less in the tank, so its scavenging like hell all the time trying to suck it over the baffles with no positive pressure. Its a known fault but not a known weak point.

I think it's not uncommon. Usually it's the one in the left side of the tank that fails as there are two, one in each side as it's a 'saddle' type. This is assuming it's the same as the V70 anyway.
Mine used to run out of fuel just below a quarter of a tank due to the second fuel pump failing and not transferring fuel from one side to the other. I ended up getting recovered a couple of times.
It's not the easiest of jobs to do as the two pumps are connected inside the tank with an umbilical, ideally you need to feed a cable or similar through the tank as you extract them so you can pull the new one back in.

Obviously if it's different to the V70 ignore all this.

I`m an XC70 driver just lurking...

Am I right in thinking the rear seats on an S60 fold?
Would they on C60`s too?

They do, but it's not a particularly large aperture and the seats don't fold flat. More useful than not though.
