I'm having a bit of a tyre day today.

I need some new tyres for my V70 (V70 D5 auto) and currently am on my second set of Pirelli P6000's. Overall I've found them pretty good and they've lasted over 15,000 miles each time, but whenever I read a review of them, they get slagged off and today I've read a fair bit about them being pretty poor in the wet.
I find them decent in the dry, ok in the wet, but fairly rubbish in the snow and ice last year.

I've had a search on here for other reviews, but can't find anything. I'm running on 235/45 R17 91Y at the moment.

Can anyone recommend anything else? I'm looking for something that wears reasonably well, is quiet on the motorway and has good dry and wet weather grip...is that too much? Also if anyone recommends a tyre, can you also let me know how it works in cold/winter conditions, as I'm thinking about getting some winter tyres too.

Mine are 225 45 r 17 91v on a 2.0T Petrol v70 and I have not found anything better in terms of price than the p6000s. Also found Volvo dealer cheaper than kwik-fit...

Running the sp9000 on my c70 t5, they are fine.
Had goodyear eagle f1's also, they are very good.

I had the P6000's on a bmw a few years ago and they were scary in the wet, nearly dangerous.
They were good in the dry though.

I find the p6000s to be fine for the V70; they may not suit other cars in other sizes but they seem fine in wet and dry. For last winter I fitted marangoni meteo escs - very good in snow and good low-temperature grip, but do need pumping up a bit more than summers (34psi) because of the softer sidewalls (a common issue with winter tyres).

I also regard the P6000 as a ditch finder.

I've just bought (today) a set of Vredestein Quatrac 3 from http://www.clickontyres.com/ (I mention the site because I had trouble sourcing them) The guys there were very helpful and gave me a good price.

The Vredestein is supposed to be a good all year round tyre - I'll see how it goes when I've put a few miles on them.

I run (and have run for the last 10 years on Volvos) Kumho Ecsta - currently SPT KU31 and have found them to be superb - I get around 20k out of them if I go easy on them - not easy with a T5 as they are heavy on their tyres anyway, they are very grippy in both wet and dry conditions. There is a new version of the KU31 which are no longer asymmetrical which means they can be put on any corner of the car which I will be replacing mine with when they eventually wear - price wise they are a similar price to something like a goodyear eagle and far cheaper than Continentals or rip off Pirelli

Due to an arguement with a kerb and subsequent tracking issue, I have replaced both fronts from ditchfinders to pirelli pZero Rossos. Only driven round a few roundabouts but the difference is noticeable, the rossos are much better, but they are dearer.

I wouldn't use P6000 if they were FREE

I'd usually go for Goodyear Eagle F1 over anything, although my new car already has Continentals fitted so giving them a try

P6000s do work surprisingly well on V70s/S60s, and is probably the only car that I'd consider putting them on.
The other factory fitted tyre at the time was a Continental ContiSport something, which had better grip wet or dry, but wore out at a faster rate, particularly on the edges at the front.
P Zero Rossos were the 'R' and 18" Sport tyre, and it had some specific development work at the time to go on the Volvos. Superior to the other two, but rapidly eaten by the heavy fwd car.

I really did not like the P6000's (V70 2.5T 250bhp)

The Kumho KU31's by contrast are excellent and good value

Another Kumho KU31 fan here; based on our old 850 T5, so fairly close - I tried various, including P-Zeros, P-6000s and some super ditch finders which I can't even recall the name of. The Kumhos were consistently better (and significantly cheaper).

I never really had a problem with the Pirelli's, but after a bit of searching around, went for some Hankook's.
So far so good. The noise on the motorway is better/quieter and the grip seems to be ok.....although in fairness the Pirelli's were on their last legs when I changed them, so anything would give better grip!

I use Mowhawk, was very suspicious at first as they are half the price of other tyres but Modern Tyres in Northern ireland have never put me wrong before.must be coming up to 20,000 miles with still plenty of thread left, recommended

New rubber time, I've been very happy with my Kumho tyres but I'm just checking if there's anything about that people prefer using these days?

On my last V70 and S80 I tried various cheaper tyres but found the best by far to be Michelin Primacy 3
http://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/michelin-primacy-3

Pirelli cracked and didn't work well in the wet, Kumho were OK for he first 8k miles then went off, last test was Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance and they were probably the worst I've ever tried, no steering feel at all, car feels loose and sloppy to the point of being dangerous because of the very thin sidewalls and minimal support.

The Primacy 3s have been fantastic, last 18,000 miles on the front and are quiet with brilliant grip in the wet as well as good feel and steering response without being a sports tyre. I'd never put anything else on the S80 now.

I run uniroyal rainsport 3's on all my cars now.

The life span to me is more than adequate and the security in the wet is more than worth it.

Dry handling is fine as well when I push the barge hard. I run mine at 36 psi

Cheers for the feedback guys I will have a look at both of those mentioned. Also agree about Pirelli being awful, had them on before the Kumhos, utter rubbish!

I've had my V70 on Michelin Pilot Alpin 4's for the last few years and been surprised by how well they wear all year round. Abandoned the Manufacturer suggested P6000's long ago, but got on well with Cinturato P7's for a couple of years before I went to winter tyres all year round.
