I may well have the worlds least reliable Volvo. I have an 05 V50, earlier this year the clutch went, resulting in a four figure bill. A few weeks later the little end went (not that I know what this is) and I had to buy a whole new engine, thus another substantial four figure bill. Now just a couple of months later, I get in the car after work and there is an odd whining noise. Then the 'Power System Service Urgent' message appeared. A quick look on-line suggests that this would be the alternator.
Has anyone had this alternator issue? If so how much did it cost to fix? Do you have the part number?

Volvo had a reputation for reliability, but as far as I am concerned this is the least reliable car that I have ever owned.

sorry to read of your troubles but...
ford took over and from 05 reg they became ford focus based cars..
read in the past that the first 2 years 05-06 reg had numberous issues....
thats why, we last month spend 5.5k at a volvo main dealer 110 miles from home on a last of the line volvo v40 1.8 sport. its the last run out model when all the parts where volvo...even the engine is a volvo unit, not the lean burn mitshubishi unit that was also on offer...full leather heated seats etc etc
(i still have a phase1. v40 year 2000) that we've owned for 7 of its almost 11 years. and the biggest bill has been under 300 for a full service mot and cam belt change and front pads...
sister in laws focus 1.6 vvti unit is 55 reg, and had 1000 spend in the past 12months....
my volvos still got its original exhaust...(ally coated....)

yeh i'd love a c30 for my work run, but the thought of a premium car with focus expense at 5 years puts me right off...

Its the 1.8 petrol, manual box. Just to add to this some censoredtried to steal my wheels the other day, but didn't manage yet left the nuts loose.
I managed to reach 70mph on the M1 before the wheel came flying off. Unfortunately the insurance company are going to repair it, but as soon as the car comes back, I am selling it.
