Diesel MPG?

Volvo S40. 2002 Diesel. noticed a drop in MPG of around 10 miles. So had the car fully serviced inc fuel filter, no better, anyone got any ideas. It is now returning only 34mpg..

does it have an EGR or DPF ?

Both are systems for reducing emissions

EGR - Recirculates exhaust gas
DPF - Diesel particulate filter

If its a sustained drop in MPG it could be MAF related (air flow meter) but not knowing much about the 02 models not sure if it could also be related to the above.

I know that at 70k some of the 2.0 diesels have to have the DPF filter re-charged at a fair old cost, if its blocked or similar then that could be the cause.

In short there are so many potential avenues a garage check is often the best bet.

If you list engine that might help though.

Not knowing much about the car i can only tell you that it is a 1.9 d sport lux 115bhp, on an 02.
