Hi all

As my parents have had enough of their A class they've decided they'd like my Sport Coupe. So I'm on the point of ordering a V50. I'm thinking of a SE Lux in either D3 or D4 spec with geartronic.

I was wondering if anyone on here has any experience of the new engines?

Thanks in advance

Todd

D3 in S60 and V60.

It goes OK, quite smooth, power fine, the noise was clearly not a 4 pot noise, no idea on fuel consumption, however the problem that several of us had with then engine was that it was easy to stall, and the torque curve seemed to fall off a cliff and would bog down. However that won't be a problem with the Geartronic.

£2,600 extra for the D4.

Thanks for the info the geartronic should get round most of the problem apart from initially pulling away.

I called in at the dealers the other day and they arranged a V50 D2 (to try the vehicle) and a V60 D3 geartronic (for the powertrain). The D3 seem to provide a reasonable reserve of power most of the time and I think that in the V50 it should be better as I believe it's pulling less weight around. However I've decided to go for it and ordered a D4. The D4 should provide suitably adequate power, without a significant consumption penalty, most of the time.

I've just got to wait until the end of March now for delivery, so more later.

We've got a V50 D4 (manual though) - as far as we're concerned it's a good engine, powerful enough to make progress down the Fosse Way overtaking when necessary, nicely frugal for the motorway trips, maybe a little thirsty around town.

The dealers reckoned Volvo had been surprised by the response to the new engines and they were taking time to come through, but then they would like to think they were in demand. I was lucky the they had a build slot reserved for similar to my spec awaiting to be taken.

Bit of a change in plans.

The car I was expecting to arrive at the end of March is ready and waiting at the dealers.

I collected it on Friday, but haven't had a chance to use it much so far. I'm pleased so far, the steering and ride are good and I'm not regretting speccing 16" rims. The economy is also better than my previous C220cdi, despite not having done any miles.

One thing that surprises me it that there is apparently no running-in period. Does anyone have any guidance on this?
