Guys,

I've got the 8043 excavator - had it built-up a few yeas now. I bought a load of new batteries becasue my son wanted to play with it. OK so I wanted to play with it but whatever.

Trouble is, even with fresh batteries, it's got no power. I know it was always a marginal design for the power available, but now it barely has any at all. The slewing function stops after about 90 degrees.

I read there were issues with the linear actuators on this model, does anyone know how to identify the faulty parts?

The slewing function doesn't use LA's, so is it also a motor issue I wonder?

Also, is there any way of lubricating lego safely? I did ask them ,but they said they never recommend lubricants. I reckon they would make a hell of a differnece to this model, but I don't want to degrade the plastic.

Any ideas?
Strip the motors out of the build and see if they work.

I use silcone spray lubricant when I build up the models - spray it into something first, then brush it onto the gear mechs etc. Don't need a lot and it seems to make a difference.

The motors spin, but seem to have reduced power. It's almost like whatever lubricant is inside them has gone thick.

I'll check.

Wasn't there a Lego upgrade for this model? I can't remember what all that was about, but I know other people had similar issues.

There's one on Gumtree for £60 locally for me, described as brand new. I wonder if that means sealed and unbuilt?!

Completely sealed and as new. Box is a bit battered but it's never been opened! Very pleased!

Happy with that, ordered. Though the online "click and collect" page isn't great and seems to have frozen.

LOL!

When Smyths toys had 20% off the other week (and I ended up with a Death Star), I also picked one of them up smile

Finished the helicopter after a six month break half way through the build (box was put away). The drive from over the door isn't turning anything so I will have to strip back down to the gearbox if I want it working. May just hang it up in the kids room though.

You need to push the lever either to the left or right? There's one on each side, can't remember which one but the rear door, rotors, landing gear and winch can all be manipulated depending on which lever you've engaged?

Also I didn't realise the Cargo Plane was a motorised set so even more pleased. smile

Might I ask a quick question?

My wife got me the Unimog last Christmas and I've finally found time to build it (really enjoying it too - first Technics in nearly 30 years!)

Having completed the chassis (ie all '1' parts), should the motor run the wheels and/or engine or just the pump and front/rear ancillary shafts?

I can't see how it can and the engine won't operate from the wheels because of the diffs. I'm beginning to wonder if I screwed up the gears somewhere?
