I picked the Crane up from Smyths on Friday using the promo-code mentioned on the previous page, got it for £100. Finished book 1 last night, really enjoyable build so far.
Gutted to find the code and the other discounts finished last week - they want £142.99 for it now!StephenP said:

I had actually ordered it from Amazon (it was floating down at £112 at the time), then came on here to say I'd ordered it when I saw the code, quick cancellation to Amazon and ordered from Smyths! When I got home I had an e-mail from Smyths telling me about the code. It could be worth ordering something from them on-line from Smyth's just to get the promo e-mails.Hi Collective,
An odd query here, & doesn't 'quite' count as advertising yet, & need some input on left-of-field quandary!
Re: the stuff summarised below - I have both, but all in bits, & want to sell. So - what kind of price do you think would be remotely viable? Feel free also to PM, if nec.
Bulldozer (8275) on Amazon, & it's £670 - £1000+ boxed/new; The Excavator's (8043) from £330 to £650. They must be discontinued models.

On bricklink, sold used in the last 6 months in pounds sterling,

The excavator at £155 was mine Ignore prices on Amazon as they are mostly dreamers. Bricklink and Ebay both list 'sold' prices which is what counts. Note due to fees that a Bricklink sale at £155 is the same net price as an Ebay sale at £167. Also consider Gumtree for no fees but more hassle Bulldozer

Have the power connectors tarnished?
I'll check.Wasn't there a Lego upgrade for this model? I can't remember what all that was about, but I know other people had similar issues.
Today I dismantled the Excavator to get to the appropriate parts (not easy, especially with no dis-assembly instructions) and removed the offending sub-assemblies.
After much puzzlement, and consultation with the original instructions, it dawned on me that the parts they'd sent, and the replacement instruction steps were identical to my original ones. In other words a complete waste of time and effort. It took a good hour to put the thing back together (without the new parts). I did replace the LA's which was a simple matter, but I'm pretty sure the spec is identical to the originals.
At that point I decided to say "sod it" and against advice from LEGO re. lubrication, I applied a light coat of Mr.Sheen to all accesible gears and shafts. The transformation was incredible: Smooth, quiet running, and far more power on all functions - way better than when it was first built. In fact the slewing movement is now so free moving that it's difficult to stop accurately. If every shaft and gear was carefully lubricated on assembly there would almost certainly be another huge step in performance. We will see how the gears degrade over time I guess, but given the choice between a painfully slow and weak model that was hardly worth using, and possible degredation of teh plastic, it's a risk well worth taking IMO.
The moral of the story is check your instructions before ripping the model apart for the 8043 patch.

Will go great next to my VW camper
I bought the Campervan for my wife's birthday last year and the Mini for this year's. They're great kits - look really nice together on the shelf. I don't think the builds were especially taxing.Still, at least she made hers. I bought the Enzo kit from the Racers range and that has sat half-built for 6 months now, and there's a Supercar and Rescue Helicopter sat in the wardrobe waiting to be opened.....
