Nice collection.
I remember building the excavator back in my early years with my dad. I think I was about 4 at the time and distinctly remember measuring and cutting the pipes for the pneumatics. Technic Lego is cool.
What price did people get the LMP car for in the group buy? I just managed to get order one for £72 from Italy Amazon, so fingers crossed it all goes through ok.
I think I'll build the two models and then rebuild using the parts for a larger scale racing truck with remote control and servo motor steering, with exposed in-line 6 engine etc.
I also bought the skip lorry and the recovery truck last month.
The skip lorry is a great direction for Technic kits at that level, and a great kit for the money I think.
The recovery truck was a bit poor in my view. The whole middle of it is a gearbox for linear actuators and the controls are just a nightmare. It'd have been so much better to run a compressor, full pneumatics and an air tank.
The new penumatic rams on that new truck for 2015 are a good sign!

Probably been mentioned numerous times already, but this new Lego doesn't really have anything to do with the Lego kits I loved as a kid, in the 60'sand 70's. You can't build anything other than the model you buy nowadays. I remember visiting the Lego shop in New York several years ago, you could buy by the piece, tray after tray of every imaginable part, brick, block, tile, eaves, lintels etc. The good old days. .
I only posted this as yesterday I dismantled the huge rocket launcher Lego thing I gave my daughter for Xmas a year or two back. I realised it can't be used for anything else, and was so complicated to put together it will NEVER be reassembled by any of us, so may be given to charity.

I don't think it's been mentioned numerous times because it's simply not true. There may be more parts these days but that's actually helpful when you're building your own stuff. And if you go to a bricks and mortar Lego shop you'll see exactly what you describe in store:

I'd argue that was probably also true back then, a single kit would be limited for building anything else with. I have realised it would be difficult for me to come up with something from just a pile of parts, but then again I'm sure if I gave that pile of parts to a 9 year old he'd have something done in no time!

The problem is (if it is a problem.?) the sets are now more expensive and even more valuable when out of production so know body wants to mix any parts together... It's a total new "collectors" world since I was a kid... And yes I'm guilty of it but still enjoy it...
You tell yourself that to justify what you spend on kids toys! Give the sets to a kid and they still come up with weird and wacky creations because they haven't really learned what is the right and wrong way to play with it.
Basically watch the Lego Movie. You are Captain Business!

Well my race car arrived from Italy on time and for the amazing price of £72 inc postage.
I just finished building it and I'm pretty happy with the overall design and look of the car. It's a great balance between panels, size and appearance.
But does anyone else who built Technic in the 80's and 90's find that today's kits are a bit naff in the functionality sense?
There is a lot more focus on complex gearboxes and later motorisation to drive relatively trivial things like opening the doors and rear hatch on the racing car. I sit and wonder why you'd not just have the panels and doors on stiff pins and open/close by hand, or even just a small turn wheel for each screw drive rather than a toggle system.
While on the 80's cars it was common to see a gearbox as an actual way to make the engine go faster or slower, or popup lights, or seat adjustments etc.
Even the suspension seems flawed, too stiff and sitting against the stops. I'm certain the black and red cars from the 80's sat on their springs better and made more of a 'show' of their suspension.
In the case of the race car it'd have been more interesting to see hydraulics or something to lift the car for wheel swaps, or something to make the spoiler change pitch, or something relevant to real racing cars.
Motorisation would have been cool to impact steering and the actual engine so you could drive the car around instead.
After having built the recovery truck, the skip lorry, the racing car, and also the formula off-roader, I think the skip lorry is the best overall kit. Great price (almost the cheapest), looks 'correct', feels like a classic technic set with sensible features that you interact with, and the gearbox/motorisation seems well balanced, no pointless features just to add some gears for.
