After looking through this topic for quite a while now I've finally bitten the bullet and the 42009 Mobile crane was delivered today.
First things first, holy crap its bigger than I thought. So many pieces!!! I've not built Lego since I was about 12 year old and its almost a bit intimidating, can't wait to get stuck into it though.

You are kidding me! For god sake.

Every launch LEGO get more strict about sending stock early and have previously come down on me like a ton of bricks for delivering several days early. However every Launch either Argos/Tesco or some other big outlet just stick them on the shelf....

This time I am trying to be good, but then you get Argos shipping already. I will speak to my manager about getting these sent out ASAP.

If it is on Argos it is very well hidden, I cannot see it there.

Not that I need it though, since I have one coming from you smile

I think they may have made a mistaje listing it as i cannot find it now even searching the stock code. My brother saw it listed in new releases and it was showing in stock when i went in so grabbed it with my other bits i needed.

That is a bit special. Very jealous of someone that's got the time and skills (and funds!) to build that.

I'd love to see how it's built actually, the non-technic bits make it very clean.

I wonder how big the market would be for £500 mega sets from Lego ?

I suspect it would surprise even Lego just how popular such sets could be!

There's quite a few of us I bet but the cost to develop a mega set would be very high unless they could approve one of the MOC ideas.

I'd love to build the defender set that you can get the instructions for.

I'm certain there's a market for £500 kits. Lego already sells its "flagship" kits at the bit-below-£300 level (SHIELD Helicarrier, Death Star etc) and they seem to sell well. I don't doubt that there's a section of the AFOL community that wouldn't baulk at paying £500 or more for a "mega kit".

I suppose it's a question not of whether there's demand but whether there is sufficient demand to warrant the time spent to design and fabricate the kits.

For me it's not the price that's the problem but where to store them. Some of the other kits are getting large already. A mega kit could be huge!

Well I have got the Mercedes built and got to say it is impressive and is a good build. I was going to post build pictures but there is a few new touches I've not seen before so I will let you guys find them yourself. Built up it is as big as the unimog but not as wide. Will let the pics do the talking now.

Size comparison with my other kits

And the rest of my collection just for show.. (Excuse Mickey Mouse in the background,)
