Slomax, neither could I when it came to the unimog...

Loved the look of it, read the reviews, wanted it, but couldn't actually take my card out of my wallet and get it ordered.

Missus did on my behalf a couple of Christmas's ago, and I'll never doubt the value of the big bd technic kits again. So much more built into them, they're probably the best value kits available.

In summary, get the Arocs bought!

Oh jeez... I really cant... I have been offered 42006 (BNIB unwanted present) for £70. Don't know if that's a good price or not given it doesn't have the power functions. Looks like a decent kit though....

It cost me £50 when I bought mine new a couple of months ago it might have been discontinued since then though best checking ebay.

A quick scan of ebay reveals that they are going for anything between £70-100.... But don't know if its really worth it. Its either this or the 42024... But the levers and gearbox look more complex on the excavator. Anyone have both to inform me which is the better kit?

I've got 42006, it's a nice kit, and wasn't a bad build. I'm sure it's not powered though. I think you have to add the power functions separately.

I'm sure I didn't pay £70 for it though.

No, its not powered (without the additional kit). Its rrp was £50, but was retired in November 14. Might offer £60 for it and see where I get...

Got it, fantastic kit. Great build! Put in the power kit too and it really makes it an excellent model. Challenging build too, my first 'big' technic kit. I did take a few build pics if anyone's interested. I love the grabber arm, they could have done it cheaper and simpler with a bucket instead, but its a nice feature.

Still churning through the Arocs between work, whilst it cost a fair bit, in terms of cost per minute it's probably the cheapest fun I've had! Well recommended.

Volvo next!

I built my first Technik build yesterday the 24 hour racer. Have to say I was very surprised with the amount of parts and how much detail is in the designs. I spent about 6 hours on it yesterday and another hour tonight but its done. I ended up with Lego back yesterday my god it was painful. I also completly under estimated the size of it, what a beast.

Well and truly caught the bug now, not just Technik but Normal Lego too. Im looking at the Merc truck next or the F40.

You'll probably want both.

Yep.

Right now I have:-

Wall E
Unimog
Arcos
Volvo Front Loader
LM Car
F1 Car
Mobile Crane (MkII)
4x4 Crawler

I am hoping that they don't release anything else i like for a good few years as it is becoming more expensive than my Scalextric and rc car habit.

The flip side is that i would expect that all of the above (Wall E as a possible exception) should be capable of relising at least 50% of their purchase price if i was to sell them on in the future, even though they have been built up (well not that Arcos yet, i am saving that incase we don't go abroad for NYE...

I've got:

Le Mans Car
AROCS
The Big Yellow Wheeled Crane
The Crawler Crane

All waiting for me when I get home. All I need now is a home to build them in, and time to do it. And I need an order in which to do them. I think the AROCS will be saved for Christmas.

Ordered the Le Mans car, been a while since I've played with Lego, is there a way to know which bag to start with or is it like the old days where you just have a massive pile of parts?

Most sets nowadays have numbered bags.

The Le mans car didnt have numbered bags, the parts where spread across all bags. I was surprised as when I built my lads stuff it was all numbered.

Thanks, will just open the bags & make a massive pile of bits & work through it. Hopefully the crane 42009 is a little easier

I do tend to find the whole rummaging for bits process quite cathartic, just like building the sets as a whole.

I like to rummage as well but my wife likes to sort - so she sorts the pieces for me and then I build smile

Sorting-wise, I put the small stuff in a bowl and the bigger stuff in a bigger bowl, that's as far as I go.
