Started my GT3RS build this weekend.

I've built some lego Star Wars stuff for my nephews the past few Christmas days, but nothing like this - really enjoyed building it, and kind of blown away by the complexity, especially the gearbox. Amazing how someone can design this and get everything to work!

Stage 1

But the wheels don't go on until stage 4 eek
We've all done it though, and it is the best (only?) way to see the gear box working.

Is this amount of parts left over normal?
I do have 2 parts missing.
I have finished the build.

Far more parts than i had left over, there's always a few small bits in any kit but the two orange 3's i doubt very much there left overs..!
As far as I remember one door & side is different to the other and that's where the two orange 3's come in, and it was not an easy step to see in the manual.

I was thinking about the 2 black shape things they can't be spare?
Yes,they look like part of the spoilers, something has gone wrong..?
Are they the two that go on the front edge of the engine cover?

Why is it so expensive? I keep looking at it too see the level of complexity but can not see anything in there to justify the cost. Think i got a set for my son which was about £180 or something but that had some motors and a wireless remote.

I wanted to buy one but £250!
Licensing. That Porsche name and badge don't come cheap.

Saying that, you'll find it cheaper than £250 in many places.

Add to the mix that it's a complex model, and the packaging is way beyond anything else that Lego have ever done.

Is there a "B" model for the GT3?

Licensing has a lot to do with it, and the gear mechanism is the most complex I've seen but it does feel over priced a bit, especially in comparison with the bucket wheel excavator that I am half way through. I could still see an RRP over £200 though. I cant think how the big retaillers are discounting by quite so much and that must be hurting the large independents such as Jadlam, which must impact the brand eventually, as well as driving more & more people to Ali Express.

The recent price increases probably wont be harming Lepin sales either.

Kidding aside, i was wondering how difficult it would be to build a cayman out of that set.

The gap in front of the headlight on my GT3RS was nagging me so I had a go at plugging it - not perfect, but (to me) looks better than the void.

Anybody else take this approach when completing their GT3RS? Or was I just being sad? Made it much easier though haha.

Too boring and just speeds up the build!
I find it much more fun to sift through a pile of random bits, and you get much better vfm as it takes longer smile
