I had an idea that I want to build myself a scalextric track. I've got a room set aside for it so I didn't annoy the wife and was thinking either a large board to build the track on with hills, tunnels etc or build the track round the room and sit in the middle. I was just looking and saw how technology has moved on since my dad built me a huge track in a vacant flat he used to have. Should I just grow up?

Trust me, worrying about what people think of you isn't healthy...
It just leads to resentment.
If you want to do it (and can do so without going without food, holidays, heating) do so!

M. I'm not bothered what others think, it just builds a case for when I put the business case to my wife or do what I usually do and have something turn up then say 'remember, we talked about it?'

I didn't know if you are 18 or 81 but 'THIRTY SEVEN' that's way too...................we apologise for the loss service, normal service will resume shortly. I'm 45 and a half, last year I started to collect 1:43 motor cars and I can't stop, I love it, age is not an issue for this kind of activity young sir.

No never to old mate. I built one in my loft a couple of years ago. Made a huge table in kind of a u shape around it.
I had a load of track etc from when I was a kid just bought some more off eBay over a few months built it up. Made a small ish track as I still didn't have enough for what I wanted used it once then not used it since lol will do when my daughter gets a bit older.
If you build one and buy 2nd hand track be aware there are 3 different types now.

I've just turned 45 and design model kits for a living! However, I still love the plastic kits, and have just bought a few tamiya kits (want to try a few new weathering techniques...), and built the 1:16 Tamiya RC Tiger Tank! (Still got that huge 24th scale Airfix Mosquito to make, that my wife bough for my last but one birthday!)
Best thing about being older is the fact you can buy pretty much what you want - all the stuff you wanted as a kid, but was too much for your parents to stretch to.....

Well I broken the news to the wife to which she just rolled her eyes!!! Ive taken the next week off work so I can look into it more and hopefully have something by midweek.
I still dont understand how the 2,3,4 lane tracks work yet can have upto 6 cars running on the same lane so Im presuming the cars are controlled rather than the track - suppose Ill find out.
Off to B&Q first thing to get some MDF to make the surface.
Ill let you know.
