Built mine a couple of years ago, overall I was a bit disappointed. The build quality was not great and I swear (despite many attempts and double checking) that the cam timing is totally wrong (ok being a bit pedantic but its a critical part of an engine)and the spark plug lights also seem to be have the wrong timing. Yes I know it sounds like a build error but after several goes it seems to be just poor sloppy parts fit and tolerances.

And the motor makes more noise scale for scale than a real one.

And more.. left it on display (as you might) and the plastic has gone green spoiling the whole look of the thing.

Oh and the fan belt snapped after a week.

Shame as really it promised to be excellent.
Same here. I disassembled much of the engine and rebuilt it to make sure I set the cam timing correctly, more than once, and it's still out.
Still, it looks quite good - on the shelf, not doing anything - without the engine noise running! wink

Can remember a long time ago building an earlier version of this, a Mazda wankel rotary engine. Seem to remember that even with loads of greasing it still didn't work very well, but whether that was down to the quality of the kit or the ability of the kit to produce the rotary motion and the rotor seals in plastic I can't remember.

Throw the motor away, sort out the camshaft and organise compressed air down the spark plug leads at the appropriate time.

I'm bumping this thread as I bought one in Modelzone. Can I use washing up liquid as lube?

Washing up liquid will dry over time and become really gummy. Get some proper lubricant.

Ok, I'll use vegetable oil when I can get my hands on some.

I used vegetable oil as a lubricant and found it also became gummy, attracted dirt like a magnet.
Why not use WD-40?

Almost two years on and I still have it. Although it has now been relegated to the top of my cabinet shelf, closed away without the button having been pressed for a long time.

I may just take it apart and on the off chance that my kids seem interested in something like this, will rebuild it with them.

Can you get a proper miniature working model not made of plastic from anywhere?
