Lego Sopwith Camel
Discussion
Browsing the Lego site this lunchtime (actually looking for Duplo for my 4 year daughter!)I spotted this.

I was a huge Lego fan as a kid, and I had some gift money burning a hole in my pocket after a recent landmark (life commencing) birthday. so I figured what the hell - indulge my inner child! I can always claim that I misread Age 14+ as being Age 40+
Now, I just need to explain to my daughter why she can't have Daddy's Special Lego to play with along with her own.....

Just need to get the UniMog now...
I saw that and was quite tempted - that's one big-ass kit! If I didn't have a wife, child and mortgage, and if I wasn't concerned about getting odd looks from anyone who visited the house and saw it, this would have been epic!

£350 though!
If you read Hammonds book from when he had a bump on his head. During his recovery he became fixated on lego. He'd spend all his time building models in his room at the hospital/clinic/center.
I suspect it's something in most car loving types. Also a damn sight cheaper than a caterham kit and the accompanying divorce.

This is my first foray into Lego since I was a child, although if I'm honest I suspect that I get as much enjoyment even out of Duplo as my daughter does....
Have any of you tried the licensed Ferrari kits? I think there was was a Lego Technic Enzo and 599 GTB. I gather they have been discontinued and only seem to be available now on ebay at ridiculous prices....

Good work on the Sopwith.I have a (just) three year old who has her own real Lego kit that makes a digger and a dump truck, because I noticed that she seemed much more interested in her grandad's Lego (you never grow out of it, it seems) than her Duplo stuff - I presume because it is quite hard to make Duplo look like much other than a load of bricks? She can't quite make the models herself yet (she's only had it since Tuesday) but she can put the bits where you tell her to.
I'm sure your four year old would love to help you

I may know 'someone' who got the Lego Millennium Falcon for his 40th... cough...
Good effort on the part of whoever bought that for you, err him! I was as big a fan of Star Wars as a child as I was of Lego. It's good job none of that was available then or my poor parents would have been penniless!
Tempted as I was by the Falcon, I decided that I would get enough stick as it was for buying Lego at my age, without bringing the added opprobrium of sci-fi geekery into it! (Oh, and it was too big to fit anywhere in my "man room"/office.....)
Have fun with it!
Anyway, to keep this Boats, Planes & Trains related, I hope the Camel sells well so they might perhaps then consider doing other aircraft kits. I'm sure a Lego Spitfire would sell in droves, although I suspect it might be difficult to do the ellipses of the wings....

I'm certain of that - she has loved any sort of building blocks since she was a baby. Which is fine by me as it gives me an excuse to buy all manner of more interesting and more complicated for her to do as she gets older - which she will naturally need Dad's help with.....
I love Lego and luckily SWMBO doesn't mind it being on display in the house. I have the VW camper in the hall and the Technic Enzo and F1 Ferrari hanging on the wall on the stairs.
My daughter loves Lego as well and have purchased a Lightning McQueen and Mater for her, honest guv!
Would love the Sopwith Camel but finances are against me right now.

I've got the enzo. it was a bit of a bugger to build. Have any of you tried the licensed Ferrari kits? I think there was was a Lego Technic Enzo and 599 GTB. I gather they have been discontinued and only seem to be available now on ebay at ridiculous prices....

I'm well over 40 sadly and finished the R2D2 just before christmas, and received the Sopwith Camel, flatbed truck (with motor pack), rescue helicopter and the Space Shuttle Adventure for christmas - coupled with the older red F1 car and the motorised digger - I'm going to be a busy boy next time I get home !
