My friends and I used to love our R/C cars when we were 14/15 but then as we got a bit older the love kinda fizzled out. I had numerous Tamiya Mini's (Racing, Monte Carlos etc), I had a Bosch Alfa Romeo on a TL-01 Chassis, a Tamiya Audi R8R which was lightning quick and I also managed to save up my paper round money and buy a Schumacher Big 6 (1/6th scale Lotus Elise with a Thunder Tiger Nitro engine) although something seemed to break on it every time I used it.
After a break of about 7-8 years I started buying the occasional kit here and there and I was also given an original Midnight Pumpkin by a friends Dad that he built back in the 80's and never touched again. It was in a sorry state to say the least. Here are some pics of my current collection:
Reproduction Vanessa's Lunchbox - completely standard
An Original FF02 BTCC Mondeo - completely standard
The 1980's Midnight Pumpkin when first given to me:
The 1980's Midnight Pumpkin after I had finished with it - running oil filled shocks, esc and 12 turn motor of which I can remember the name!
I also have an old Schumacher SST 99Pro rolling chassis in the loft along with a half built TA03 chassis with an Escort Cosworth Shell waiting to go on and another TA03 Chassis with an unpainted WRC Focus shell to go on it. Maybe one day I will get to finish them off!

This is not a good thread for me, stopped racing and sold all my gear about 3 years ago, but getting a real urge to get back into it, but I work Sundays currently which means I miss most race days...... Oh and khevo jnr is due into this world any day now means any "free time" I currently have will dissappear, means there is no real point in me getting a rc right now, but doesn't stop me looking.

Me too!I have recently bought the Unimog based on the same chassis.
I fitted the LED kit and oil filled shocks and I love it, so much fun.
It's so much better now with better batteries, I never had an ESC back in the day either, and was always fiddling with that bloody mechanical speed controller.
Can't stop looking at a re-re Egress now, also had a Manta Ray years ago.

Hah, small world!!
I bought it second hand on a tamiya cc01 from someone on the ms forum in November and have made a. Few small changes, added a windscreen and a tamiya rally interior so far. How long ago did you have it?
I got it about 3-4 years ago in a box of assorted parts that included a TL-01 and an S2 Elise shell for my TT-01. I never used it as it didn't seem to fit anything I had. Never thought to try it on a CC-01 as I had a Pajero shell for it already.I bought it second hand on a tamiya cc01 from someone on the ms forum in November and have made a. I sold it to someone on tamiyaclub maybe 18 months ago?

This thread is great, that touring car Mondeo brings back memories of 'Toca' on the Playstation! I just got this Lunchbox, I'd like to tweek it a little bit so any advice would be appreciated!
Depends what you want. I've gone for oil filled shocks, 5th shock mod, big wheelie bar etc. but it do sometimes miss the "springy" nature of the originals...HereBeMonsters said:

I'd like some more power, but I'm not sure how powerful I can go withoutneeding to upgrade the gears? I'm guessing the longer wheelie bar would be needed as it pretty much wants to flip over with the standard motor!

9 turn, that must be brutal! I decided on something more mild so I got a sport tuned one (27 turn I think). Next stop oil shocks and some spare batteries!
I was going to say a Sport Tuned should be your first port of call. I think a Sport Tuned is 23T, but about the limit for the stock ESC.Thought I might share my Tamiya Blackfoot with you all (excuse the crap photo).
Back in the late 80's the local Taylor & McKenna (I think they were called? Later Beatties) started stocking these awesome Tamiya RC cars which were totally alien to my peers and I. One by one my mates started to acquire them: Manta Ray, Thundershot, Hornet, Lunch Box etc etc. They were pretty expensive, especially for 20+ years ago so my Dad offered to buy us one as a joint project.
I wanted the Porsche 959, but my Dad thought the increased ground clearance of the Blackfoot would be better for the woods behind our house. He was very probably right.
We built it with my Grandad over a few weekends, and I still remember him explaining to a 9 year old me what switch lubricant was as he applied it to the speed controller and the first maiden voyage round the kitchen floor.
It's languished at the back of wardrobes, sheds and garages for a few years while I discovered full size cars and women! However, the other night, after an unfortunate beer-related incident involving my RC heli and my neighbours house I decided it would be safer to play with something at ground level!
So I dusted it off, cleaned it up with a few baby wipes and fitted some 2.4 GHz radio gear and spent an evening razzing it round the garden.
I was thinking about sanding the shell back, giving it a coat of filler primer and giving it a nice paint job until it occurred to me that every scratch and chunk missing out of the thing is a memory and a tribute to my Dad and Grandad, both now sadly departed from this world, and thought... sod it. I'm going to carry on using and abusing it, and give it to my son so that he can have fun doing the same.
Far better that than sitting on a shelf, surely?
