That chevy pic looks awesome.

I must take my crawlers out for some decent location shots instead of random pictures of them on the workbench / in the garden!

It's from a Chinese RC toy, I got mine years ago, I think RC4wd do them (very expensive) or ebay. search for 1/10 land rover

The chassis started as an Axial SCX10 Dingo (I think) - comes with aluminium links, I think I trimmed them on the front lowers, then made my own front uppers and both sets of rears out of M4 threaded bar and ally tube to sleeve & a pack of rod ends. Can get better pictures tonight if you want. The sliders are my own design in aluminium brazed together. Trimmed front and rear SCX10 bumpers (standard ones too wide)
Thanks for the info.

I've been doing some searching online and found the RC4WD bodies. I'll have a look for a cheaper alternative.

Looks like it is simple enough to shorten the wheelbase on the SCX10 chassis, so I'm thinking of getting the RTR Jeep Rubikon and gradually modding it. I'd like a Dingo but by the time I get the kit, all the radio gear, motor etc it ends up much more expensive than the RTR Jeep.
I went looking for a cheapish Chinese 1/10 scale D90.......

And found the only RC4WD body set in Australia on ebay biggrin

It arrived today:

Now I need an SCX10 Deadbolt + battery + charger and a LOT of things from RC4WD's website. I've spent close to $1000 in my head already smile

However it is Mother's Day here on Sunday, SWMBO's birthday next week, and our wedding anniversary in about 3 weeks. I may need to wait a while before any more boxes arrive.

Looks pretty much like a mirror image Tamiya TT-01. Might fit hop-ups from those?

I was thinking a brushless conversion?

Am I correct in thinking I need a brushless esc to go with a new brushless motor?

Keep in mind cars like this are in reality kids toys. With that in mind they don't like having lots of power put through them and break fairly easily. Don't go to crazy with the system / motor you want to put in it.

heh yeh I know its not top of the line just wanted to add a tiny bit more speed and the advantage of less maintenance with a brushless motor.

Been learning alot online the standard motor is 19turns so I'm thinking something around 13-15turns? since it wouldn't be that big of a jump.

Also Got my eye on the porsche 959 RTR kit also by carisma waterproof and its already brushless biggrin

Err...

I found a shop in Sydney with the RTR Deadbolt in stock at a good price. I collected it from the PO on SWMBO's birthday. Fortunately she has no idea how much it cost.

Here it is getting tested in the front garden. Now I need to find someplace local for a proper session.

Tbh it's pointless getting one of those mate. They will be just as bad as what you have already. Save your cash. It will only go as fast as the gearing on the car alows it anyway.

A good 19t motor Speedo and cells are more than enough for bashing about.

Changing the gearing on the car is a cheaper way to do it. Check what gearing will fit on it sometimes cars like that are limited to what you can do. Check what pitch of gearing is on the car and get some bought.

Smaller number on the spur gear ( the big one ) higher top end speed
Bigger number on the pinion ( small one on the motor ) higher to end.

Have a search online to see what others have fitted. You don't want to go ott or the motor will get to hot.

Me and a few pals have entered into the Red Bull Soapbox race and started building it in the parents garage of our driver. The garage is kitted out with all the bits and pieces you would see in any proper den, though why there are 4 or 5 band saws there i have no idea - think design tech room in school levels of kit. Anyway, his dad at one stage bought and sold loads and loads of RC cars, so dotted around were a few gems. One being extremely special...

First a whole selection of trucks and trailers - unopened There was another stack like this in the back

Then hanging from the roof was a built 'hydrocopter' thing, with a few boxed up behind

Then loads of half built, donor cars and trucks

But then there is the real reason for the post. This was given to mates dad by a Saudi Prince...it has a two gear engine apparently and is massive. I have searched online for anything similar but nothing. Engine has never turned a wheel and is clean as the day it was put together. Have any of you seen anything like this before? Would be good to know some more about it. Feels like a 1/4 scale.

Anyway, a little barn find kind of story for you

I know very little about them aside from the obvious - that they're massive! 1/4 scale.
