My set up is semi-permanent in that it's currently in the loft in boxes!
However the last two winters our conservatory has become it's temporary home.....this was the last incarnation.

Didn't get around to it this year.......................
....and need a bigger room; somewhere where the 'Slot it' cars can get up to full speed!!

I think I need to start collecting cars for when my four year old son gets his/my new set. I had the rally set as a kid with the Mini's....think Rally cars will be the theme for my new set!

I think having a theme is a good idea, it is for me or else I'd just buy everything - so I chose GT's and 'older' cars. But I'll crack soon I just know it

This table is now being used for a train set!!

Finally my mate has an awesome set up. Its modular and sits on about 16 MDF Boards which all fit under the snooker table its based on. He has since installed a full lighting system around the track. Its pretty cool.

See the Vid - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOKdU6RLopE

I have a couple pictures of some cool bits:

A few cars from the loft , think I may have to buy a couple of new ones.

A quick scour found over 40 long straights and a case load of various radius turns.

One from mine. No space for a permanent layout unfortunately so takes a while to set up with the run offs, barriers and buildings. You can just see the cab roofs from a couple of the Fly Trucks. These are brilliant!

Just fired them up and all worked except the scalextric team car .

So ordered a pair of new cars , just in case.

Anyone off to the Autosport Intl Show today in Birmingham? I've been told there's a good scalextric competition set up, winner each day wins a set. Just about to set off now, don't know how good it is but I guessthat if there is a scalextric stand and will be worth a shot and worth winning. Never miss an opportunity to increase my collection!

I had scalextric as a kid. Could never keep it down perminantly as I didnt have the space, so it was just out on the lounge floor now & then. Sadly sold it all in the end. It was all old stuff, not this modern digital set up.

Had the Mighty Metro as my first set, then added lots of track, a manual lap counter, pit lane, & loads of cars (BGR XJ220, Daily Express BMW 320i, white EsCos, Panasonic EsCos).

Would love to have a set again when I get my own house & have the space.

What kind of space do I need to make an interesting layout? I impulse bought a big digital layout but have only set up about 50% of it which covered most of my living room floor, and then I packed it away again. Cars are much quicker than they used to be and I think a layout needs a longish straight or two that I don't think I've got the space for.

I have the garage to play with putting a permanent layout in but don't want to use more than 1/4 of it at the most, I could use the loft but I don't want to mess around boarding it out properly.

The track I have is: 21 - Full Length straights, 16 1/2 straights, 4 1/4 straights, 2 crossover bridges, 8 R1 45 degree bends, 4 R3 curves (that make a 90 degree bend), 16 standard (45 degree) R2 curves, 1 R2 crossover and 2 R2 digital crossovers. With a 1st gen 6 car powerbase.

I don't particularly want to sell up but I want something that will amuse me when I'm using it. Any suggestions?

Use less volts, remove the magnets and prep the tyres for more fun and less carnage. The full power full mag cars become missiles when they finally let go.

At a recent lads slot evening, the Escort MkIIs were the slowest and most peoples favourite to race.

A layout mounted on a table tennis table (or two)can be rotated through 90 degrees for storage against the wall when not in use.

This fits on a two piece ping pong table.

This one would need three ping pong table halves.

I like the look of those, I plan to do a big lump of garage sorting over the weekend so I'll measure up the space I have.

The biggest annoyance is I only have an ipad at home so can't download the track designer.
