Hi all,

New to PH so hello.
I have been left by my late Uncle approx 500+ F1, WSBK, Motogp, Rally, Indycar etc 1:43 models. Majority of models are Onyz, but there are some Hot Wheels and a few other manufacturers included. Most are a 1:43 size, but there are a couple that are in bigger sizes, Motogp bikes mainly. My Uncle loved his motorsport, much like myself, but sadly when he died they were left in my hands and have been in the loft for the last 2 years. Most of them have been opened from the plastic casing, as he had them all on display all over his flat. I don't have the space, time, money or passion to keep up the collection and i feel bad they are just tucked up in the loft gathering dust. I could just sell them on ebay but this may take some time, and i have tried a couple of toy fairs and sold about 6 cars (couple of 6R4's) in total so not the best. I don't want to do a car boot, as i really want these to go to someone who will appericate and love them as much as my Ucnle did, and i can see some snotty kid giving me a couple of quid for a rare Minardi 2 seater, only for 10mins later back home it's in bits and left to die in the hoover. I have spoken to a couple of guys at the Brands Hatch modelling shop, but all i had at the time was an excel list of all cars and bikes, and they were about as useful as a handbrake in a canoe! I had priced them up from what i could find on ebay, doing this for the toy fairs mind. And i did take some money off each knowing they weren't mint as they had been opened. I am aware of the money spent on them originally so know i won't get that back in return, but won't be taken for a ride either. And all original prices add up to over £9k. The money would go towards my long term future plans, mortgage, kids etc. So if anyone has any advice on the best course of action and what to do, that would be much appreciated.

Cheers all,

Slickus

Do some pictures, may get some interest on here. I may be interested depending on what there is & the price.

eBay may be the best bet to sell them but not as a job lot. Always get put off by job lots as im not wanting to buy 20 models just to get 1 or 2. Would never take anything like this to a car boot, like you say, some kid will smash them up after 5 mins. Toy fairs may be good but ive only visited a few, not sold at any.

If you have any Lucky Strike Suzukis amongst the Onyx MotoGP models I'd be interested, particularly the #34 Schwantz bike.

The best thing to do with that lot to get a good return would be to take out the more expensive/rare stuff and list those eBay individually, then take the less likely to sell ones and bundle them into job lots with similar items.

Having bought and viewed large collections of toys to sell on in the past its impossible to make an offer close to the retail prices of stuff unless it's obvious they're all easy to shift.

If I was making an offer on a big collection I'd be thinking of a minimum price I could get for one type of item, then build an offer based on that. So if you have 100 cars I might have to move on at as low as £5 each I'd pay no more than £500 for all of them, in the hope that a enough are worth more than £5 to make a decent profit.
