Colleague of mine is a huge Lego fan. Bought one of these to build but then saw the prices and decided to sell it to fund his obsession! He's definitely a builder and not a collector. The guy that bought it on ebay is betting on these kits increasing in value. He appears to have bought over 50 kits so far! Spending up to £370 on them. He definitely thinks the price is only going to go one way one them.

I reckon he'll be stuck with half of those kits, the prices will go so high nobody will be willing to pay for them, afterall it is still available with the proper body for around £130. Although, people go mental for anything with "Limited Edition" printed on the box.

If its the bloke in Coventry he has well over 100 kits now. He also has a significant number of campers &r2d2 models. £30k on Lego is a big investment but its still a better return than the bank. Me, I built 1 sold 1 and have a couple stashed for a rainy day (new engine for the tvr fund!)

Whilst I've got nothing against anyone making a few quid, it's flaming annoying that for those of us who really wanted one to build and missed out (was on holiday when they released frown ), that there's people out there hoarding them.

Maybe I'm just jealous that I don't have a dozen UCS Millenium Falcon's sat in the loft!

If anyone changes their mind and has a spare - I'll happily relieve them of it wink

Sounds like the same guy. Reed's carpets.

Maybe it's not an investment, maybe he just really really wants a particular license plate number and he is frantically opening all these kits!

Unrelated to this thread...

The description of your Tamora sounds amazing. I'd like to get a Tuscan and do a similar amount of work. Need to wait until I buy a proper house and stop living in a flat.

I dealt with the same guy last week and he had around 260 at that point, which is more than 1% of the entire global stock and about 6.5% of the european stock. Said it was his "swimming pool fund", better than gold...

It's a very brave investment. Not entirely easy to cash out. Unless he's planning on setting up the London Lego Exchange.

I agree that is not easy to cash out quickly at all.

If he needs cash quick and even dumps 10 onto eBay then it is going to erode the price of them all significantly.
