Well, courtesy of a trip to Legoland this months tally has risen to 5 sets (all expensive)
Sandcrawler
Red 5 X Wing
UCS Tie Fighter
Slave 1
and Technic Formula off roader
Have to say after a quick comparison, I'd say that Slave 1 offers the 'biggest' bang for buck. A really big, robust set compared to the others. Given the premium, I'm still jot sure why the Sandcrawler commands such a higher price tag than the others - but at least I got a deal on it during May the Fourth weekend.

I am now about 6 hours into my Helicarrier build and I am loving it.
Really enjoyable, chill out experience - stick some 80s tunes on the stereo and build away.
Now Mrs Chimp has moved her crafting stuff into the back bedroom, I have much more space in the office so lots of room to display this alongside the Millennium Falcon and Campervan.
I might need some more to fill up the extra space...

Well, the new Ferris wheel takes up lots of space so you could give that one a go Really enjoyable, chill out experience - stick some 80s tunes on the stereo and build away.

I'm building the wheel itself at the moment and I am enjoying the build. It is somewhat repetitive, as expected really, as the wheel is made up of two identical left and right wheels and each wheel is made up of a number of spokes but it's relaxing
The build is in 4 sections. First the base is built, followed by the "A" frames and then the wheel. Finally the 12 gondolas.
I shall be grabbing a spare M motor and battery pack to motorise it.

I find this thread quite interesting. When I was younger I would build the kit from the instructions, then have it built up on the shelf for a week or two, before the bits were jumbled in with the rest of my lego in a big box. I'd get much more enjoyment out of designing and building my own models (normally trucks and tanks ). On ehre people tend to build the model once and display it like an ornament. So the kit becomes more like a 3d puzzle. The thing I like about lego is that it can be anything you want, not just what the instructions say.
Not saying either way is right or wrong, just find it interesting the different attitudes towards it

For me it depends on the kit. "Special" kits like the UCS R2-D2, the Sopwith Camel and the new fairground Ferris wheel will remain build indefinitely as ornaments. The Technic lego tends to be displayed for a while and then broken down and used to make my own models or the "B" models from the original kits. Not saying either way is right or wrong, just find it interesting the different attitudes towards it
The minifigures and all about to get placed in some IKEA flames and placed on the wall as "art"
