Ecto1 was a limited edition and sold out long ago. We had 1000 and sold them within a couple of days.
You scared me then! I wasn't interested in Ecto-1 on it's own, only with the firehouse. Your post made me think I'd missed the boat, but I assume when you say limited edition and sold out, you mean for independents? Cause it's currently available on the Lego store...

Yea well they limit it for us then sit on the rest of the stock for themselves and make a mint...

As I said earlier, they are adopting a very ruthless corporate approach.

I'd get on and get it bought if you want it, as the price on Amazon (marketplace sellers) has been steadily increasing by a pound or two every day since news of the Firehouse came out and got confirmed, will be interesting to see if Lego themselves will go out of stock at some point (like they have with other Ideas sets) or are they going to make sure they've got stock (newly made if necessary) so they can sell the Ecto + Firehouse combo themselves.

I cant believe the cost of the back to the future car, was that a limited edition or something? Do you think the firehouse and ecto 1 combo is likely to go the same way too? ..the new movie is coming out too but with an all female cast (of unfunny actresses) I doubt that will affect the prices.

This.

I just ordered 2. A keeper to go with the Firehouse and a spare to flog when supplies run short.

Just had a look on Amazon as my son has a recent interest in Back to the future.

£120? Really?

It was about £35 but it's no longer made. An early Ideas set from 2013.

I'm surprised it's rocketed so much. Can't find a set on Bricklink either.

I regret not buying a couple at £25 when they were being sold off now! Didn't think it was a particularly good model; Ecto 1 is much better.

Nah, anything slightly out of the normal, collectable or limited always ends up expensive. I think we sold most of ours at well over RRP at launch...

If you want to collect any of this stuff, you need to pre-order at release otherwise expect to fork out!

Even items from the standard assortment end up selling at well over RRP. Lines like the 8110, 9398, 9396 were mass produced a couple years back and absolutely everywhere, but just a cpuple years later they trade 30-50% higher than RRP. If I had a warehouse big enough Id keep back a couple cartons of every LEGO line and sell them on in 10yrs time - Id probably be able to retire!

Yep, I have an 8110 and (rather more usefully) a 41999 unopened, both are doing rather well when I check recent "sold" prices.

Of course the temptation to open them is constantly at the back of my mind smile

I also suspect the Volvo thing could end up being quite valuable in a few years as I can't see it being sold for too long, especially with another Volvo model coming out next year.

An extra ecto 1 ordered for me, I've already got one that I've built but I will be keeping the new one in the box to become a pair with the fire house.

My girlfriend who mocked me when I first met her for being into lego has come around to it and she's asked me to get her an ecto 1. She's recently bought herself a wall-e and the big bang theory sets too.

It's only take 4 years but she's getting the bug now!

I do know if it's being kept for next year, will check in the morning! Through the grapevine I hear LEGO has some big 2nd half technic offerings! But to be fair they need too as Jan launch is crap IMO.
