Yellow Submarine built this morning.

Not the most challenging Lego kit I have built however it is different, a touch quirky & I'm really pleased with it.

Finished Assembly Square and added it to my other modular buildings. Had to remove half of the Pet Shop so it could fit on the shelf.
Technical question: how are your floating shelves supported? We have paper-thin hollow walls but I've found some anchor screws (that split once in the wall) are holding up my Beetle, Mini and Campervan ok, but not sure I'd be confident adding any more to it.

The shelves are on a solid wall with normal Rawl plugs. The shelves are from the big blue and yellow Swedish shop. I also have my 911 GT3 RS and Technic Ferrari F1 hanging on the wall just up the stairs. They are held with one screw.

I cant believe how quickly my 5 year old has got to grips with LEGO (I was LEGO mad as a kid, but I'm sure I wasn't that competent so young). He spent all day Christmas day building a Fire Utility truck (below) all by himself. He then spent the next 3 days building the Fire Station we bought him. The only help I gave him was putting the fire station back together after he dropped it trying to move it! Anyway, he was so chuffed with all his models he wanted to make some videos to show his friends... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dcqp_XAH9ys I must say, I'm pretty proud of his building ability (and his ability to talk non-stop about all things LEGO!)

That's excellent, my son is 6 and he hasn't got the concentration to sit and go through the book, so I do most builds for him. Not that that's a great hardship mind you!

Really like this idea! I'm tempted to do one for myself.

Also like the smaller one, would like to make a kit up as a present for my BIL who also has the camper. Wouldn't know where to start though or know how much it would cost!

You can buy it as a kit with all the bit needed but it's an expensive way of doing it, or what I did and just buy the instructions and then round up everything you need yourself but it's quite a lot of work. I ended up placing 11 separate orders

The sets including all parts needed are here:

http://www.custombricks.de/CUSTOM-Sets/Custom-City...

Or just instructions:

http://www.custombricks.de/CUSTOM-Instructions/Cit...

When I'm home I will start a new thread for my trailer to save clogging this one up and make it easier to follow

If you do buy a kit make sure you buy a tow bar for the camper as it doesn't come with the kit, it certainly wasn't included in the bits needed list I got with my instructions

How much did it end up costing doing it all yourself?

Approx £130 including the instructions and p&p for all of the orders.
The full kit is 259 euros, so a fair saving.
Also have to take into account that I had 39% of the bits needed from my random stuff though.
The kit is 1400 pieces so a fair size!

I've just bought the Yellow Submarine. Smaller box than I expected but I couldn't resist the fun/nostalgia/legend factor!

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I'd be looking at about £40-£50 for the smaller trailer then.

It's only a thought at the moment, but what is the most lucrative way to sell about 35kg of Lego? Some of it dates back 30 years to when I originally had it, there is a load of kit from the last 10 -2 years - Ninjago, Star Wars, DC etc, but it's all been disassembled, and in various plastic crates that are soon to be put in the loft. The kids have lost interest in it now, and I get the impression that once it goes in the loft, it'll never be mentioned again.

Are there places (besides ebay) where people buy mixed job lots?

Pretty much eBay really, sites like BrickLink are more for specific info brick orders rather than random stuff.
I could be interested if you were anywhere near Northamptonshire

Also Gumtree which means dealing with more idiots but also means no returns if they don't like it and no fees.
The way to make the most money is to sort then build the kits if you think they are close to complete. I have bought mixed job lots and done this and it takes a LONG time, perhaps 100 hours or more for 35kg. Consider picking out all the minifigures and selling them separately at a minimum. You will get less for the KG but probably more overall.

Save it for your grandkids. The worst thing I ever did was carboot all of mine when I grew out of it. I never thought when I had kids I'd want it all back again biggrin

I went there last year with the kids and saw a huge model of St Pancras Station. The detail was phenomenal.
