Star Trek: The Official Starship Collection
Discussion
My package arrived first thing this morning, so only had a quick rummage through...
Firstly, the DS9 special is really good, mostly metal, comes in a sturdy box that protects it well, its certainly on first inspection well worth £17.99 (or £18.99 in shops).
Issue 8, the Excelsior, paints good, its very small (but being a long ship it would scale down as being small if in line with the others) and mine is very very bent, nacelles are way out. Also, the sculpt is easily the worst so far, the secondary hill is wrong, although the saucer is fine.
Issue 9, the Defiant, again, good paint application, feels really chunky and a good size, only things I'm not sure on are the build, mine has massive panel gaps and despite being chunky, it actually feels flimsy, parts creak and the fit and finish is easily the worst of the whole line. I'm afraid I think I'd got a Friday afternoon one. The nose of the ship is very loose and will break off very very easily.
And lastly the Future Ennterprise D subs special, I'm not a massive fan of the design but as a model its very good, as good as the Issue 1 Ent-D, as you'd expect.
So a mixed bag, I reacon the Defiant would be a total hit for me, as the sculpt is brilliant, but I've been unlucky this time around, I've no idea how they've made such a chunky solid ship feel like its about to break, but there you go, hopefully the rest of you will fare better. The Excelsior is sloppy and feels small and is the first of the line that I've thought, hmm, thats not worth £9.99.
Maybe as the line has gone on my expectations have risen given just how brilliant issues like the NX-01 and Romulan Warbird were.
DS9 though, brilliant. Such a nice job.

Will take some later as I had to abandon any fun thoughts of flying them around the galaxy, ahem, room, in departing for work. Can't really take pics of how flimsy my Defiant is, I'm going to pick up another one on the 12th when its out in physical shops.

Depends on what you ordered as the special bits come in delivery number, not issue number, i.e. the fourth or third delivery is the special Ent-D.
I.e. if you started sub from issue 3/4, then the enterprise D will be in the next delivery, but if you ordered a sub from issue 1/2 then the Ent-Dx will be in this delivery, if that makes sense

Finally subscribed to this last week so hopefully I will receive my email telling me my first delivery will be arriving by the end on the week looks like some people are already trying to sell extras on fleabay for 50% markup so anyone who bought extras should be able to bring the total subscription outlay down a touch

Ha, I've bought extras of everyone so far, but I like them too much to flog them.
Thats a bit of a white lie though, in the interests of giving Eaglemoss an early sales boost (so we reach my holy grail target of the Akira class) I bought a ton of Issue 1 Ent D's and I've been ebaying those for a little money.
Funny really, despite trek being off tv for nearly 9 years recently we seem to have been treated to some really good stuff this last year or so, decent books and some ships. I've had the 'Star Trek Stellar Cartography' book on pre-order and it arrived today, really nice item. The Haynes manual of the Bird of Prey is also a highlight (better than the Enterprise one). Good times.
I'll only get one of the Borg Sphere though, yawn.

I did think about finding a whsmith near me and getting duplicates but to be honest I cant be bothered with trying to find an early opening or late closing branch that fits in with my normal working day plus I know that like many of the series I have started to collect from shops I find that after the first 20-30 magazines you end up having to subscribe anyway as they as they seem to disappear from shops anyway
