I was out and about yesterday with my camera and saw a bunch of old guys playing with their toy boats on the local lake. As I drew closer it soon became very apparent these were not toys, but beautifully crafted scale models of Scottish tug boats built from scratch. One of the gentlemen kindly let me take these pics.

These are not tug boats!

The Loch Maree would be termed a Clyde Puffer.

From my distant past - I remember "Para Handy" https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&a...

Recognised the models instantly, from the TV series. Neil Munro wrote the book on which it was based - quite a funny at the time......

My Dad scratch built a Clyde Puffer about 20 years ago. I remember him soaking the wood in the bath to bend it for the hull. He did have a steam engine in it but changed it for electric eventually. I'll try to get some pics next time I visit.

Wasn't it the "Vital Spark" in the Para Handy series?

Dad used to watch it avidly back in the mists of time.

So we did too smile

Dad was an exiled Scot and being from Hamilton the Clyde was his local river.

Back on topic, a mate of mine made a replica Clyde Puffer which won a prize at last year's Scale Modelworld.

Lovely model in 1/72 scale all scratchbuilt.

I wish I had the patience to make something like that.

It looks wonderful.
Does it still get wet?

Yes. He still goes to the park Lake. It blows the dust off.
