We build hyrail vehicle (road vehicles that can also run on railway lines) and have been looking to build a truck model based on this:

http://scaleart.de/en/products/semitrailer-trucks/...

It will be modified to look somewhat like this:

All of our kit will be scaled down and machined and fabricated accordingly but we really need some 1:14.5 rail, including sleepers, track clips etc. to match.

A quick google seems to bring up model railway scales either side of this but nothing quite right. The closest are 1"12 and 1"16 listed as common north american live steam scales.

Any ideas?

The first thing came to mind is that some if not most rail modelling compromises track gauge, Hornby track is not true 4' 8", so how different would 1:16 v 1:14 be? Would it be a compromise you could accept?

But if you a re machining and fabricating your own kit why can't you fab your own track bed?

Another alternative would be to look at a custom 3D printed track bed at the right gauge.

Another thing to consider is rail size - full size rail varies according to use with mainline being the heaviest and sidings/light rail (trams etc) being the lightest & smallest. Thus if you want to model a minor siding such as shown in your photo, plus the fact that most model rail is oversized, you can use the mainline track from a smaller scale without much problem.

Sleepers would be pieces of stripwood.

One potential supplier: http://www.tenmille.com/Gauge1TrackAccessories.htm... does track, rail chairs as septate items.

Fro illustration - Tamiya 1:14 truck on standard LGB track - rail size looks close to what you need, gauge needs inceasing though.

Thanks for the replies.

I agree that a gauge either side of 1:14.5 would probably look right in terms of the rail profile. What I diddnt realise was that it's possible to buy the rail, rail clips and sleepers separately - I'd assumed it was like 00 and N gauge when I was a kid and the track came complete - Thus making the rails at the wrong gauge for our model.

I'll look to see what's available locally in terms of components and we can build our own track around that.

Thanks for the help!
