I keep getting the urge to revisit my youth, and buy another Tamiya R/C car - but I don't want to just order one online and have it turn up a few days later. I want to spend my time browsing and walk out with a box in my arms.

Some of the shops I've used in the past no longer exist sadly - so are there any decent model shops left in London or the South East that actually have a good range of electric 1/10 RC cars in stock?

Mick Charles Models is still going in Ewell.

It was founded in 1971, and even though Mick is sadly no longer with us his sons still run the business. thumbup

Probably lacking the personal touch but Hamleys usually have a good selection of Tamiya R/C.

My mates and I used to virtually live in Mick Charles Models when we were 13-14! I remember Mick, he was a nice old boy that was always happy to have a chat with everyone. His son John runs the R/C car section there and knows his stuff. They always have plenty of Tamiya kits in stock and keep plenty of hop up kits if you fancy making it a bit quicker!

Thanks Jeremy - that looks great! I could see myself spending a lot of time and money there!

One I've just remembered that I've used before and is still around is Al's Hobbies in Hainault http://alshobbies.com/

Avicraft are really good, bit of a social Thursday evenings when open late. They have been going for a long time, haven't been there for a long time.

There used to be a model shop in Shirley near Croydon, not sure if still going though.

Mick Charles Models was my local model shop in my teens - Dave Charles is a top chap on the aircraft side and a fantastic pilot to boot.

Al's Hobbies another good option in the area.

If you can cope with going the other side of the M25, Slough RC Models have a really wide selection of everything and further away (Worthing) there's Sussex Model Centre.

Dealt with all of the above and pleased with them all - it's a friendly hobby to be in.
