I've always bought die cast good quality models, but over the past couple of years I've found it increasingly pointless, the last time I was genuinely pleased with a car was my 250gto nearly 2 years ago, I found myself stood in a number of massive model shops at Le Mans and walked out without spending a penny!

But last week my better half accidentally let it slip that she'd bought a scalextric for my birthday, it's reawakened my love for model cars as there's an actual point to a highly detailed slot car, it looks good on the shelf AND it actually does something! So I bought this as my first proper slot car....

Can't wait! Looking at a 6r4 next with working 4wd! So I thought I'd get a thread going and see what's out there.

My dad is very into his slot cars, I'll have to get some snaps of my favourites. He has the same Jag as your link, too.

One thing that has me intrigued is the Kyosho slot cars; they're smaller than 1:32 but seemingly just as detailed and reportedly just as fast. They also do the 787B which is a personal favourite of mine, I believe you used to be able to get a 1:32 Pro Slot model but it's rare/expensive now so even if I bought one it'd never get used.

How many do you have?

This is my first, other than that just the 2 that came with the set, they're gash to be honest. I sold most of my die cast last year so I'm down to 2 dozen of my favorites. Really loving the slot cars, top quality models, often for a fraction of the cost and you can actually do something with them. Brilliant. I'm planning on buying a 6r4 for when my mate comes to race, my mrs loves the corvette at Le Mans this year so I'd like to get that, gotta have Daniel Ricardo's red bull for the boy, then I'm going to set about building a Motorsport legends collection. Quite excited! If your dad has any used ones he'd like to sell I'd be interested. I get more pleasure from buying a used model than brand new.

Certainly does! That is awesome! Doubt I'll have the room for that size setup! Loving the turbo2 Renault!

Ooh, I sense this becoming an expensive thread. I've been collecting cars for years, with the intention of buying a Scalextric Digital set, and converting all the cars to digital.

Will do some pics when I get in - pride of the fleet are my and my brother's 80s F1 cars - Mansell's Williams, Senna's Lotus.

I like the different length loops in the middle to get all circuits the same length. I guess there's still some small radius advantages though.

Some pictures of the collection, this is probably less than half of them overall. There's more in storage boxes and in the loft!

Wow, impressive! How long has it taken you to collect all those? Is the intergralle in the last pic a 4x4 magnetic one?

I had a knock at the door today!

Yep, completely sold on slot cars, 6r4 next!

Would those very old scalextric cars work on modern track or is there no difference?

An old car can be made to work on new sport track with little more than a clean and often new tyres. For it to work on a digital setup you need to stick a digi chip in line somewhere, that's often easy enough on a closed wheeler but can be a challenge on some smaller formula cars.

I've got to say it is very good quality for what it is, I was quite surprised how good it was, do they build cars on a limited edition basis? Looking at their website, they don't seem to have a very big stock. Who else is worth looking at?

I was thinking about racing them and slot it seem to have a good rep which Is why I looked into them in the first place a few year ago.

From looking over the last few years yes I presume they are limited in how many they make. They also make each car In the team also so winning cars or popular drivers etc seem harder to get hold of or fetch a higher price.

I found this site. People on a slot forum seem to rate it but ive never used them.
http://www.topslotsntrains.com/topslotsntrains/cat... It'&category='Slot.It 1/32 Slot Cars'

Ebay also has loads of them.
