I seem to have a bit of slot car habit...especially for Porsche 917's, 908's and the odd Ferrari 512 coda lunga
also like a bit of Group.5 action and a couple of rally legends
All are cars manufactured by FLY - take a bit of work to get them set-up to run well
but they look fantastic when sorted.

Ooohh....that brings back some memories. My twin brother & I had the F1 set one Christmas & the Rallycross set for another, one had banked curves & the Armco never stayed in place when cars hit it. Chicanes & crossovers, even had a bridge, grandstand & clockwork start lights.Ditched it all for an Aurora AFX 'cops & robbers' set with working headlights. It was pants, the contacts wore through very quickly & the whole thing was very cheap & nasty compared to the Scalextric & you struggled getting spares or cars locally. I also remember having to clean the tyres a lot with sellotape to maintain decent grip.
Recently helped my dad make a display unit for 'most' of his slot car collection. When I say most, there are still an awful lot of these things on the opposite wall, either still in their boxes or part of a limited edition with display boxes...
There's room for 400 cars on the display, pretty much anything you could wish for is there - and if it isn't, he probably has one elsewhere...
It's in alphabetical order by manufacturer. There are an awful lot of Ford Escorts!
Lambo's and Lotus'
How many Astons?!!
There's a full fleet of JGTC cars too - Skylines, NSXs, Supras - it's like Gran Turismo all over again.
A handful of them are mine - they're just kept at my dads, since I don't have a track anyway.

Wow! That's a serious collection there! Sadly starting a new business has but a temporary hold on any would be purchases. However, Le Mans is coming up and there's a good number or stalls selling a huge range of slot cars as well as resin and die cast so I think I may bring something back!
The autoart ones are pretty, but don't really perform that well. The earlier models also lacked a driver figure too, which bugged me more than it should haha.
I like the HPI Skylines too, but similarly they have blunted performance as they are quite heavy. I have an R32 and an R34. Dad has the same again plus some R32 race cars.

Be warned - 30 odd years of looking at stalls at places like LM and so on have taught me that you can sometimes pick up a rarity but you will always be paying top dollar.Gassing Station | Scale Models | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
