Are you referring to the magazine that is being advertised as offering a piece of wooden kit each month or something different altogether?

I saw the first issue on sale In WHSmiths today for 50p.

Is it not something like 150 issues at £5.99 a time? Really? Sod that.

Also saw that a similar model of the train Mallard can also be built - first issue is 50p..... the subsequent 150 or so issues are also £5.99 a pop.

I wonder just how many people get suckered into buying the models.

They look good in the adverts however I recently saw the de-agostini Aston Martin DB5...... Oh dear!

Your money. £780 odd quid buys a lot of model boat, and I suspect it will be far higher quality than the mag one, and you'll not have to wait 2.5 years to have the final thing on your shelf.

Just sayin like.

These part work models are essentially a rip-off. "Normal modellers" (an oxymoron, I admit smile) usually have little time for them.

I seem to remember hearing that some of these kits can't be completed becasue the company stops issuing parts if there's not enough interest. Not sure if that's true, but worth investigating.

Many of these models are large, but very crude for the scale.

I have never seen a completed one (other than on the ads!) but looking at parts of the RC car one they did a few years back it looked the sort of thing you could pick up for less than £50...

Correct. Not enough subscribers, they certainly used to pull the plug mid way through the run. Whether they still do, I don't know, but I wouldn't want to take the risk.

As mentioned above, the Bond Aston was very poor for the money and the Flying Scotsman had some serious issues.

If it is the Hachette one, it has previously been on sale in Germany. The overall cost is utterly ridiculous. I have a Revell 1:72 VIIc up in the loft, and there are some extremely nice upgrades for that too. The 1:48 seems to owe more than a passing word of thanks to the CMK resin interior kits:

I have heard stories of subscribers being told at some point that no more partworks will be published, and being offered the remaining parts of the kit for a lump sum; the publisher hoping that the customer will be willing to stump up in order to finish the project.
