Modify old acoms controller

Ive got an old acoms ap-227 mk 3 controller and one of the battery teminals has corroded away. Im going to repair it but is it worth modifying to fit a rechargable pack, and then buying a dual type charger for the car as well to make things easier?
Its only for the kids to play with so nothing too fancy just ease of use.
If anyone has done this any advice would be appreciated.

I wouldnt waste your time, Id just pick up an AP202 for £30. Decent set of AA's last a decent amount of time.

Not really, one of the two main terminal contact springs has snapped off so i thought id try to do away with them.
Will probably just repair it cheaply.
