Tamiya 1:72 Mosquito FB Mk.VI
Discussion
Thanks guys!
So the story about the Frog Macchi will stick in the mind for a while, very sad.
Perdu: The rule for this one - definitely - is no aftermarket parts, no airbrushing. I'll try to save the decals, but they do look bad. The kit dates from around 1973 according to Scalemates, originally released in 1963.
I've already got the far better Italeri version with some extras, but this one is just to see what can be done with basic modelling techniques. The camo on the Fouga Magister that my 8 year old son brush painted made me realise that you don't necessarily need an airbrush to get a good result.

You have demonstrated admirable discipline, with former builds, in "getting it right".I wonder how much discipline you will be able to show in "getting it wrong". Probably depends upon how egregious the kit's faults are, I suppose.

The yellow SAR2 and the green/green HC2 which is a model of the Wessex now preserved at RAF Cosford
You can see the rotors of my Scout in the picture of dr_gn's Mossie and prize
just
Gosh! There's some real talent there. Admired the scout as I scrolled down. Reminded me of what a fiddly little bh it was for a six-year olds fingers in the '70s!
Personal faves are the Mossie (because I'm a sycophant), the shunter (because it's bloody excellent) and both the "Shorts Skybus" and the "Flight of the Phoenix" (for their wit!).

I noted you mentioned the Ho229 on page 9 of this thread.
Well, I did start the 1/48 Zoukei Mura Ho229, and the plan is to paint/ airbrush woodgrain using templates on one wing. The a/c skin is in transparent PS. The other wing top and lower section will be left part transparent to see the wing inner structure and fuel tanks, and part painted in camouflage.
It has become a very complex build, and I wonder if it will ever be finished. This is how far I got, you may notice one of the two lower engine cowlings left transparent to still be able to view one engine from the underside. I can't get the image rotated for better view.

Deserves its own thread please! BTW I’ve seen an original in the restoration shop of the Smithsonian. Yes, I ended up giving the kit to my son, who started it, but never finished it. After going to Telford last weekend, he now wants to try woodgraining it.Well, I did start the 1/48 Zoukei Mura Ho229, and the plan is to paint/ airbrush woodgrain using templates on one wing. Yours is looking excellent so far, but - and this is obviously just my opinion , I think you might be trying to include too many features: You've got woodgrain, paint, two levels of transparent skin in places, and interior detail, all in a fairly small volume. Again, personal preference, but I don't think transparent skins look great on a scale model. How about painting the left half of the skins (including the left side centre sections) in camo, and the right halves in wood, and displaying all the upper surfaces separately so you can clearly see all the (undistorted) interior detail including the fuel tanks etc? You could finish the inner surfaces of the lower skins in the same way: left sides plain aluminium, right side wood - some would be visible and would provide a backdrop for the interior detail if attached to the model.
I built the Horten a while back, I'm not very good at painting but I had a go at fading out green around the edges of the transparent skin so it gave the impression of an x-ray:
I've just received the Hasegawa Sopwith Camel display model this from Plaza Japan, less than half the UK price too - about £115 delivered whereas it seems to be £200 to £250 from UK sellers, looking forward to building this over the Christmas hols.
