I just bought 2 of these for £60 each (two as I may butcher one for the FPV kit and transfer to on of my RC planes).

Amazing value. Easy to fly, quite stable and decent enough quality from the camera. At that price you can't lose for a 'casual' drone.

My sister presented me with the Syma Camera equipped one pictured on the previous page for my birthday - without any prompting!

Very grateful!

Anyway I had a quick flight in the garden, its far far more stable than the Hubsan X4 i've been playing around with.

Quality from the camera isn't brilliant but not bad - the main problem seems to be the shake from the vibration & movement.

Not tried the video yet.

I did park it in a tree pretty quickly. Need a larger garden.

One downside..... the manual advises 130 min charging for 10 minutes of flight!

You can order a pack of 5 batteries and a branch charger for about a tenner smile

The Hubsan X4 and the Q4 quadcopter which is being advertised as the world's smallest quadcopter and have to say it was minuscule, was highly tempted to buy one or more of them because they did look very interesting indeed.
Ive been interested it getting something that flies for a while (I have another thread on it) and bit the bullet and got the red5 Q4 to learn the basics, like hovering, landing, not crashing etc from the comfort of my armchair. I had a look around first just to check what people said about it etc.

It flies for 5-7mins on a charge and charges in 15-20mins, ive crashed it ALOT and it still flies as if it was new (I have the prop guard on), the props seem to fly off rather than break (I've replaced 1 prop so far as it bent, you get a spare set in the box), its fast and responsive, controls are standard mode 2 (power and rudder on left stick, pitch and yaw on right with trim buttons), the controller is tiny but very functional. It has a gyro and accelerometer in it even though it tiny, so it self levels and is very stable.

I've since found it for £25 on ebuyer, ive seen the hubsan q4 sold by lots of different retailers rebranded and reboxed.

As you can tell I really like it.

Chaps, is the syma x5 still the favourite cheap drone? I fancy one as a little toy, I like the look of the x5sw with the fpv.

Best place to buy? Banggood? Anywhere I can get it a bit quicker?

What of these high capacity batteries and branch chargers?

Thanks!

Make sure you're familiar with the rules related to Drone flying in the UK (if you are in the UK). This wont effect your choice of drone but it will effect where and when you can fly. Contrary to some belief the same rules apply to both hobbyists and commercial operators. Info here:

Interesting link. My next door neighbours lad has a drone which has ended up in our back garden a couple of times, wasn't fussed about it at the time but next summer Lufbramatt Jr. will be crawling/walking around our garden so won't be happy if it happens again.

Hi there,

My wife and my son bought me a Syma X5 SW and 5 additional batteries for my birthday in September.

Its superb fun and the fact you can mount your iPhone on the top and record video using the screen on your phone as a view finder is great.

I live next door to a racecourse so a decent amount of open space to fly it.

Heres a video from an early flight

Well my v686g piloting career could have gone better.

First flight was when it was stupidly windy, crashed and lost the battery. Fair enough.
Ordered new batteries and they arrived and first flight was going well till the wind started taking it.
OK, I'll press the rtf button and that will save the day.
No.... It sodded off at a right angle from where it needed to be going and is now on the roof of a building.
Oh well.

Hmm, just been reading a review on the x5sw and it seems as if vid/pic recording is done via WiFi so you could end up with laggy bad quality results. The x5sc saves everything to an SD card so presumably it's better quality.

I know it's only a cheap toy but I'm a bit disappointed. Any tips on which to choose? Still tempted by the sw for fpv.

Any tips on where to buy from or which batteries/charger to get?

I gave in and bought a Walkera 350 pro, with a fancy F12e and stuff - its pretty awesome and can carry a GoPro camera.

So much so I think I might sell it and just head down the DJI route!! That's after a few weekends farting about with the app and waypoints etc, so its definitely a gateway drug (tho not sure if I can face ebay - so might keep it was a spare).

Chaps, any thoughts on this? I am being hassled about my Christmas present!
