I'd like to invest in a decent mid-range radio set for flying aircraft, I don't really want to spend more than £150.

I have a Ripmax Nebula 2000E which will be my first model, after practicing and gaining experience on it, I'd also quite like to get an EDF jet.
I will be signing up to my local flying club for insurance purposes and getting some instruction. I have quite a few hours using Aerofly's simulator so hopefully I will be up to speed fairly quickly.

Having done a little research, I've found a couple of radio sets that look pretty good, but I could do with some advice on their suitability and any other recommendations.

Turnigy TGY-i10

FrSky ACCST Taranis X9D PLUS

The Taranis set appeals as I'm a software engineer and I'd quite like to play with the OS software.

Thanks! smile

Find out what people use at your local club. It's much easier getting help when plenty of them know the radio well.

I've been using the Taranis for the last year with a multirotor set up. The programming side of things is great, I've set voice notifications for button switches and added a £13 voltage monitor and set the taranis to speak the voltages every 5 seconds when they reach a certain level.
Would definitely recommend it!

The one thing I don't scrimp on is control.

Having had plenty of failures in the days before 2.4ghz etc it costs a lot more to repair your aircraft than the cost of getting a quality RC system.
There are lots of tests out there and in general the higher end stuff does perform a lot better esp in a noisy environment.

I would also consider future compatibility. Would you think about going UHF at some point?

My suggestion is to look at Futaba. T8J with R20008SB. About £50-£50 over your budget but well worth it IMHO.

Good luck.
