Last night's session resulted in the funnels being fitted, and yet another deck fitted between them:

Next up is adding more railings to this lot.

More railings and the rear cabin fairing, plus the beginings of the mast (reinforced with a pared-down cocktail stick):

Fitted the crane cab (with glazing and a control panel to fill out the interior a bit), and completed it with railings and ladders:

Just needs the jib fitting to the pivots and the cables adding.

Also re-made the black front mast strut (the original was too short), and the upper mast (which was too thin). Design errors to tthe last with this one...

Still al load of fine laser-cut detail to add to the mast.

More work on the mast, adding some pipework, a ladder and laser-cut antennae and railings:

All very tricky to get aligned.

How on earth do you form part 102 c into a tube?
I'm trying with limited success, have just ordered the Sea Shepherd + lasercut details to have a play with (late christmas present), but when it comes to cylinders <1mm in diameter, I can't manage it with these fat fingers

Small diameter tubes are by far the worst things to do. I've been thinking of an easier solution for a while, but for now I roll the strip around a small drill, and hold it together with a strip of de-tacked Tamiya tape. Remove the drill, then liberally apply pva along the internal join and leave to dry. When you remove the tape, it sometimes peels the outer printed layer off the tube, so you have to stick it back down again.

I'm thinking of making a clear perspex jig - basically a load of different sized holes to stick the tubes in to apply the glue. That would get around the peeling issue, but would probably result in the finished tube being stuck in the jig. A split jig would be ideal I guess.

Could you insert the ends of the paper tube inside some rubber or metal washers to hold it in place while applying the glue inside?
Maybe apply the glue just to the middle, when it dries, remove the washers on the ends and glue the ends - should prevent the washers being glued to the paper tube.

Whatever the external jig is, it needs to be transparent material so you can see you've got a perfect join line before applying glue.

Would probably be quite awkward to find any washers that small. we're talking diameters on the order of 1-2mm :S

More work on the mast: Radar and antennae, plus a radome on its support:

And a pair of signalling lamps on their support structures:

Ta Perdu!

At my rate of work, I doubt it will be ready, but if it is I'll bring it along. Any of the gang going do you know? Looking forward to seeing Steve's Hawks.

Wow!

I'm not sure whether I am most impressed by the design or the maker! I think you can CO2 laser cut PTFE, so that may offer one way of forming the cylinders. Failing that, see if you can get a machinist to turn you a stepped PTFE mandrel. You could cover the wet item with shrink wrap, that doesn't usually stick.

Since Steve seems to work even slower than me I suspect we'll have to wait 'til '18 though I hope to see him too

Ascoteer says they'll be there and I'm sure you will

With them too no doubt, I hope wink

I've stuck with the manual tube making method for now - Liferaft pods, bridge binnacle, and of course no ship worth the name would be complete without a giant Cornetto balanced on an open coffin:

Quite a collection of sub-assemblies building up now:
