I'm looking for a few individual display cases for some 1:8 & 1:18 scale cars & bikes.
They don't need to have bases, but I doubt I can buy them without;
does anybody have any recommendations of reasonably priced suppliers please?

Trumpeter have some good value cases.

Probably the best idea would be to look on Amazon and Ebay, just searching for 1/18 display cases.

This one looks pretty good.

If you cant find what you want they make cases to your dimensions, you can get the cover without a base if you want. I have bought quite a few from them and they are delivered well packaged so no worries about damage in transit.

Be wary of the cheaper ones. I bought one from the Modelzone concession in Birmingham and the quality is crap. It's like looking at on out of focus picture!

This, UV light can cause the cheaper cases to start turning opaque, no doubt due to damage caused to the plastics used. The ones from the company I linked to are still crystal clear, years after I bought them.

Minimodelshop give's 10% back through quidco.

Thanks chaps, I certainly will beware of the cheap stuff.

Some of the other cases I seen on the 'net look as if their sides taper slightly, I don't like that.

Now I'm not going to go for the cheap stuff, in true PH fashion I might splash out for custom made;
I've got a 1:8 bike in the pipeline and it could be difficult to find a ready made.

The autoart ones I linked to taper so that they can stack.

Fair play if they aren't for you though. Bespoke would be great.

Thanks for that heads up re the taper; stacking is not something that I need as the models I want to protect are scattered around the room and are very different sizes ranging from 1:18 CMC to 1:8 Pochers, and the relatively narrow bike.

ETA if I'm having them made and I won't be stacking, I assume that the cases needn't be as high/tall as there won't be another model on top that would prevent you from looking down onto each vehicle.

Its personal preference really as to how high you want the top of the case to sit above the model. I have a 1:8 scale Pocher car in a case that I can take a photo of to give you an idea of how yours could look. I also have a 1:12 scale bike model in a case that I recently had made which I can also attach for reference.

Thanks EM4-2. Your Pocher F40 case looks perfect for height, did you have that custom made and what is its dimensions?
I do have a Pocher F40 but I wasn't thinking of casing it until I saw yours!

Yes I had it custom made, the dimensions are 615mm long, 310mm deep, and 225mm high.
Sounds like you have quite a collection!

Thanks for the dimensions.
I don't have a large collection, but most things are large biggrin
Here's a couple of items:

I need a cover for the Alfa.

But I've already got a cover for the Bugatti.

Nice, do either of those have internal engine details such as pistons etc? My uncle had a Rolls Royce kit with the detailed engine, the amount of parts was immense.

They have an outrageous amount of detail such as engine internals and in some models working brakes (the Bugatti had working lights too).
But they are actually rather crude and almost impossible to get a decent fit of the items straight out of the box.

The new Pochers can make a great straight out of box build, but they seem wedded to Lamborghini;
I might be tempted by this: http://www.pocher.com/1-4-model-kits/ducati-superb...
but it's not my era frown.

Another vote here for Acrylic Display Cases.

I've bought a number of their custom built cases for models I've made and have been happy with the results. Delivery for a custom case has been about 10 days from my experience.

I just bought some 1/18 display cases for some of my cars. Got the ones from CK Model Cars with the race track kerb base. 6 were £48.95 + postage but they are the dearest ones. The bases with the race grid / start finish line on are cheaper.

I went with those guys and they made them to measure embarrassingly quickly; I only ordered on Wednesday afternoon and today when I got back from a trip to London, there was a LARGE package waiting in the porch thumbup.

Looks like they can make one for my 1/72 B-2 Stealth Bomber, it'll be well over £100 though redface
