I'd be tempted, at the moment i'm struggling to get the scale, at HO this would be big at O, I think I'm right in saying its huge. Any chance of a photo with something to scale it against/overall dimensions (i know you say 55m long all in)?

Also are you doing all the build yourself (and either way how many ££ if thats not rude to ask)? Impressive so far!
If you check out the opening paragraph to this thread I think that answers most of your questions.
But to recap, the track work baseboard/frames and electrics are being constructed by professional model builders. I get the frames complete with the track laid and wired. I then do all the scenery myself which I've actually been practising on scrap boards/polystyrene for the last couple of years to get it as accurate and near as poss to the real thing. Needless to say this has been 4/5 years in the research & planning.

At the moment 30ft is more or less complete with about 12ft per month being produced and finished.
Should all be completed by summer next year and yep I'll post some pics with a Coke can so you'll get an idea of scale.
£? Yea..a lot smile

Thanks. Your wish is my command. No rolling stock yet - it's all being built from kits but here is a few pics of a humble Class 08 & 40. Oh and the gantry is now lit smile
Thanks Simon, those pictures are great. I love the class 40's, when I was a kid I pestered my old man for ages to get me the Lima version of one after reading all about it in an old Ian Allen book I had. Unfortunately I never seemed to have enough wagons or a long enough railway to make a 'proper' train.

Its great to see you doing something I spent many hours dreaming about in my youth!

When I was a kid, I had a cellar full of Hornby kit and my parents used to buy a lot of bits from charity shops - before the true value of Hornby was appreciated. I looked after it well, and enjoyed "playing trains"

A few years back when my parents moved house, all of the track, wagons, engines, carriages etc were all still boxed up, so I took them home with me. I bought a cheap 6x4 layout from ebay and most of the engines still run. What surprised me is how much stuff I managed to accumulate - probably 6 large sets, Mallard, Flying scotsman, IC125 and various freight sets, a few smaller engine and wagon sets on a circle, but also in the region of 30 coaches, 70-80 wagons, 15-20 engines. I'd guesstimate that there is in excess of 400 pieces of track although there will be a lot of R605 curves from the sets, but the desire to build a big set in the loft is still there. Nothing to this detail or historical accuracy, just a big setup so I can "play trains" again.

Just the small matter of an en-suite, cinema room, double garage & 2 gardens to sort out first, and the ongoing reef tank project, along with two kids and TVR, and full time job - I'm struggling to work out when I'll get the time.

Threads like this do not help me with prioritising!

A professional pic from BRM magazine who were here taking a few snaps yesterday. Love the photoshopped background but amazing what a proper photographer can do..

Excellent. Here's a thought, it's nice to see a layout that's not set in the height of Summer...

been through lots of cups of Yorkshire tea during the making of this and a lot more to go. Here's a gauge shot.
There won't be many more pics for a few weeks until I get to the junction itself another 12ft up the line.

Last pic for now. The real Heaton Lodge Junction in 1985 - not too long before we get here.

You sir have too much time on your hands smile.....and thank goodness you do.

That is extraordinary. There's just so much detail.
My jaw has been hanging open for the past 5 minutes examining the photos.

Bookmarked.

Thanks for the patience with me! That is impressively big, you seem to be making very fast progress even with the help.

It's already stunning and will be magnificent when finished I'll warrant.

Any chance of a pic showing how the boards join together? Have you got a loom running the entire length of the model?

I run a business with 100 staff but fortunately I'm not married so spend evening in the garage rather than the house smile
So I don't have to put up with 'are you going in there again you might as well put your bed in there blah blah blah smile

Ok then I'll get shot for this but courtesy of Andy York at BRM here's some more shots they did yesterday. Have to say they make the model look better than it is. Enjoy..
