I used to use the cut through here to get to the track and annoy the drivers

Little copse here..

The nearest two tracks are the ex Lancs & Yorks Calder valley line the furthest two the ex LNWR main lines.
All in all we are about a third of the way along the 180ft now. As I explained the track is laid, made and ballasted by Norman Saunders (who does it professionally), the frames are by White Rose Modelworks who also wire each frame before passing them back to me to complete the scenics.

More updates when the junction is built and gantry installed smile

I used to put on old large penny on the track, and wait for the steam train to flatten it.

Kids eh?

Christ I remember throwing a thin chain across the track I used to hang my keys on at school. What I didn't realise at the time is that it was enough to activate the track circuits and set all the signals to red. There wasn't any trains for an hour which was as a 12 yo making me wonder. Then a DMU came growling past at walking pace the driver shaking his fist at me. Never run so fast

Just excellent. You have the best eye for detail I've ever seen. I've really enjoyed reading your thread and am looking forward to your updates. Good luck and keep up the good work.

This is really quite incredible. For me, it's the things you know are there but don't notice them which make it. The AWS and the footpath you pictured are like that. You'd not make a particular effort to look for them, but if they weren't done right you'd definitely notice.
Bit like "look after the pennies, and the pounds will look after themselves".

Mini update.. here is the first point which makes up the double junction, its around a scale 40ft long and you can see the template of the other point next to it and before it (out of picture) will be a long crossover. All in all this makes up the scale size junction which is about 12ft in length.

Norman Saunders a pro track builder has even obtained the original drawing from Westinghouse who manufactured the point motors in the 1970's/80's. All the cranks will move when the blades move and point motor heaters are yet to be added. The 3 cranks you can see will be linked together by a long metal bar.

In the black and white pic you can just make up the gantry and bridge which is shown at the beginning of this thread (and is the beginning of the model). Everything from there to the junction on the model (about 48ft) is now complete smile

Anyone who wants to come and have a play nearer the completion will be more than welcome. Should be housed in an industrial unit by early next year. When it is I'll probably live there myself smile

Bookmarked.

Excellent love looking at model railways, used to hang around one at the bottom of my garden, used to walk along and occasionally find hedgeporn Mayfair Fiesta etc.smile

Looking good Simon - got some scaffolding on the house up now so if you're in the area always welcome, makes a good viewing platform! :-)

You could certainly find an image of the cover online and then print it out at the correct size for the scale. I once saw an O gauge class 66 with a copy of The Sun in the cab.

That's given me a great idea for when I finally get around to building my 1:24th Routemaster bus! biggrin

(The Sun, not the hedgeporn)

Definitely a missed opportunity there.
