'O' Gauge Model of Heaton Lodge Junction
Discussion
Scale speeds most definitely..
The scenic part is around 40 x 4ft long by 4'6''/5' wide boards.
The yard the same length but a lot more track for the siding obviously.
I wanted it so it's possible to simply watch trains go by continually hence the loop. Should take about 10/11mins for a heavy freight train to do one complete circuit at scale speed.

Did(will) HSTs run on that line? The scenic part is around 40 x 4ft long by 4'6''/5' wide boards.

In my time at Manchester Victoria(Dec '86 to Feb '04) as a driver I'd say I never saw one on this route, whether any were ever subsistued on Liverpool Newcastle services I can't say. Cross Country did have Saturday ESC moves, we had a summer Saturday Manchester Paignton booked for a rented Neville Hill Midland Mainline set, it only ran for about 4 seasons and XC didn't really push it. Must have been a second set used because there were 2 late turn ECS moves back to Leeds. Sadly all this occurred far to late to see on this layout.
I remember seeing those. First one I saw I passed at Cottingley, I thought he'd took a wrong route at first! Only later was it pointed out to me be one of my more "enthusiastic" colleagues that it was a booked move.
Our HST sets have made it over in passenger service a few times in the recent past, and there's persistent rumours that we'll be signing them in the near future. Personally I'm not holding my breathe.

I've been reading the thread for some months now. The scale of your layout (and ambition) is amazing. The scenic part is around 40 x 4ft long by 4'6''/5' wide boards.

The 40 on the already completed section looks like real life, keep up the good work!
What type of control are you using DC or DCC, with O gauge plenty of room for decent speakers if you are going the DCC route. I run a DCC system from http://www.merg.org.uk, I'm lucky to live very close to a fellow member and they have played a big part in getting Pete Waterman's layout up and running.
Mini update..
The first of two double junctions is almost complete and awaiting ballasting and the fitting of the replica point motors and point heaters. The chap who builds the track for me is almost as mad as me detail wise and has even scratchbuilt the dummy point motors from the drawing supplied by Westinghouse the original manufacturer!
Soon this 12ft long junction will come to me for scenic detailing, and lineside track circuit transmitters, speed signs, and the huge gantry.
Here is a reminder of the actual junction..

Cheers for the update Simon.
