What a pity the OP has (presumably) left PH: I used to love seeing this thread being updated.
There's a thread called "Heaton Lodge Junction" on RM Web. Some interesting photos on there.

~BUMP~

Luke's APS / Geek Gaming has done a video with Simon. It turns out Luke literally (and I mean literally) has the business unit above Simon's railway, and has done a video showing how he pours a huge resin river.

There are some great videos online on various channels on it. The one that got the sense of the scale of the task is this one

I'm looking forward to seeing this, it is going to be in Wakefield Market Hall (nice to see them using it for something after the council closed the indoor market...) which is only about a mile from where the layout usually lives. That makes a lot of sense. I hope Simon doesn't get bored now the main layout is finished (for some value of finished). If the number of magazines in the supermarket is anything to go by, there are lots of model railway fans out there, so I hope this works out really well.

I hope there is merch for sale, that seems to be where the real profits come from. A nice nerdy black t-shirt with Heaton Lodge World Tour 2021-2022 or something. Or a car window sticker to put next to the National Trust one on the Dacia (I jest, but only slightly).

ETA: Nice Sierra Ghia Estate and Mk4 Cortina models!

It looks very much like this layout is featured on next week's episode of "Hornby: A Model World" on Yesterday, Monday 26th October at 9pm.

On first reading I thought I was going to throw a dart at the Radio Times in order to find out when it was on! wink

Will be watching this.

Having followed this thread since page 1, to see the layout ok show like this really put into perspective a) just how huge it is and b) just how epic it looks when things are moving around.

Nice to see a cameo from the Train Truckers too....

Indeed, and interesting to hear that there are plans to go out on display too. That will be something to see.

The first outing is in a shopping centre in Wakefield in December, he’s selling tickets on his website for a fiver.

This was the only decent part of the first three episodes of the Hornby programme.

But what I can’t get my head around, he said it’s a new business venture after the cars, selling tickets at a fiver and needing 3 artic lorries plus bodies to install, dismantle and hire of the units to display it,how can it actually break even let alone pay back some off the costs to build it.

Or is it just a very big life time hobby he has realised and wants to share but isn’t interested in the financial aspect.

Best model railway I’ve ever seen though and I’m no train enthusiast.

I don't think he's bothered about the financial side.

Sort of assume that the value of the model railway is the cost it took to make it and he sells the tickets to cover the transport and setting up of it at different venues.

Just chanced on reading this, and have watched some you tube on it.
Wow! What an undertaking, that's amazing that he's spent that long and that much money ( £quarter of a million!!) on it, don't know anything about him but must be powerfully built company director at least!?
I'm not into railway modeling but would still love to see it.
