Breathtaking ... right down the to cable run with a section of the cover knocked off and the cables exposed. So real!

Absolutely amazing detail, I am so impressed by this layout. It must be incredibly rewarding to be putting together something of this size and standard.

That's very impressive stuff, look forward to seeing more photos. I haven't seem much of a large layout for some time - a local boys grammar school used to have one, but as the school is now quite different I don't know where it ended up. Is there a reason that you chose O-gauge rather than something smaller from the point of view of making it easier to exhibit?

As a former Manchester Victoria driver I will be looking forward to seeing the Heaton Redbank vans, Cawoods and numerous tank trains. Even a sneaky Deltic on the Liverpool Newcastle service. But please no 142's, I have stood at that signal numerous times ,you're model is superb.

It was the model railway at my school in Poole that introduced me to model railways as a kid. It used to run down one side of the physics lab, hidden under wooden covers when not in use ...

That sounds like PGS. Who was running the model railway club at that time? In my era it was the chap who had deformed finger nails as a momento of his time in a jap POW camp.

That's the chap, he patiently got me through my GCE physics. I was only there for a couple of years, '81-'83, in super-cool Alfa-driving Tony Britton's form.

(sorry for the thread drift)

Just chipping in to say please keep us updated when you can, lots of lurkers I imagine! Truly impressive level of detail, even right up close the track looks so good it could be a real photo.

Exactly.

I'm not really a 'model railroad' person but this is truly amazing for me to see.

I had a cool model Hornby set when I was a kid that had lots of polyfilla covered in fake grass and trees. I loved it. This thread is tempting me!

Praise indeed! Thank you. You will defo be seeing a couple of Class 40's double-heading the Newcastle (Heaton) - Manchester (Red Bank) newspaper empties. This will be one of the show stopping trains I'm hoping. With 20 odd GUV bogie parcel vans and the 2 x CL 40's it'll be over 30 foot long smile
You will be glad to know I'll only be running the first generation DMU's - Class 110/104 etc

Thanks for all the positive comments on here.
Today I was up in Bedale at the cassette/frame manufacturers to fine tune the fitting of the first 5 almost completed boards. The white patches are obviously not quite done..
First time I've seen the first 5 together plus 2 new ones I've picked up. To give you an idea of the size what you can see overall is 30ft which is just one fifth of the total length..
The four tracks diverge at board 12 for the junction itself and gets most interesting after that..

Bit of a detail shot..I haven't OCD but if we're going to do it this big its gotta be right! The grates in the road are where the real things were on Woodend Rd in the 1980's

A long view of the 5 almost completed boards (each 4ft) and the two about to undergo the scenic treatment. Woodend Bridge here is the beginning of the East end of the model
