Hornby DUBLO train set
Discussion
That little collection definitely has some value to it, so don't throw it away. It's all 3-rail (they went to 2 rail later on) and isn't compatible with modern track which will limit the potential target audience, but there are dedicated 3-rail collectors out there. The models look to be be in fair condition and you have boxes which always appeals.
Try contacting eiither;
The Hornby Railways Collector Association - http://www.hrca.net/
or
The Train Collector Society - http://traincollectors.co.uk/
Either of those should be able to put you in touch with valuers or dealers who will be able to help you out.

Unfortunately I don't have the space or skill to do such a thing.
Realistically I'd like to sell it as the aim was to get some money to go towards some wedding rings.
Don't get me wrong, I'm aware it's not the holy grail of finds I'm just struggling to find the best place to try and sell it.
Thank you for the advice though!

I've got a fair old chunk of my Dad's Dublomstuff I need to get rid of... We're talking 60-80 locos, hundreds of carriages/trucks and miles of track. Some stuff is still boxed. Buildings, people, controllers, the works.Any suggestions for a Lancashie/North West dealer? I did speak to one guy a couple of years back. Having done a bit of a tot up on comparative eBay prices, I estimated there was about £5,000 worth, and I think I estimated on the pessimistic side. He offered £1,200...

There's obviously a difference in what it's worth to and end collector, and what a dealer is going to pay. The dealer is going to have to hold onto your collection for quite a while in order to make his/her return. Also, the market for this stuff is going to naturally reduce. A friend of mine had a vast, and I mean VAST collection of 1960's 00 gauge trains and he started to sell them off about 5 years ago before the bubble burst. Collectors of these items are going to be the guys who had these as kids who want to create the halcyon days now that they can afford more than their 1960's pocket money would allow. As that generation naturally reduces so does the market, and the prices.As for being in the North West, I'd suggest trying Hattons of Liverpool. They held the unsold Hornby Dublo stock for years and years and if anyone knows the market it's them.

Just to update this, I happened to notice an advert over the weekend for Warwick & Warwick auctioneers. They have a specialist department that covers this subject and seem to offer a service for free valuations at their travelling open days. Might be worth seeing if they're holding one near you.
Mind you, I haven't read the T's & C's:
