Old busses have always been a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. Not in an anorak and notebook sort of way, but more the way they sound, smell etc... Just lovely. I was browsing the market in my local town and came across a model man on the market with a load of boxed Corgi Classics busses which had all come from one collector who was downsizing and having had a chat with the man and a look at the busses I decided I'd take them and give them a home

I have a thing for old buses too - although I haven't gone so far as to buy or build models of them.
I have a particular interest in the buses that operated in Dublin in the 1960s and 70s as they were the ones I used as a kid. CIE (the bus operator in Ireland back then) bought in Leyland (and other) chassis from the UK but built their own designs of bodywork at the Inchicore Coachworks in Dublin.
My favourites were the Leyland Titans of various type that they used from the late pre-war period right until the late 1970s.

Anyhow, I've re-discovered eBay and decided that I'm going to stereotype myself up even more by building a half-credible collection of diecast busses. Latest acquisitions are a selection of Atlanteans, two of which are in KHCT livery I must learn not to bid on identical items at the same time...

CIE also operated a fleet of Atlanteans. These arrived in the late 1960s and early 1970s and were supposed to replace the Titans. But it didn't quite work out that way so the Titans and Atalanteans worked side by side until they were both retired in the mid to late 70s.
The CIE bodywork on the Atanteans didn't include the cut out at the rear window - which has been put there for a reason as the heat from the rear mounted engine needed to escape. As a result, CIE Atlanteans had a habit of bursting into flames. Even if they didn't, the rear bench seat used to get mighty hot.
