That looks like a very interesting kit.

I wonder if Chinese find the instructions to be adequate or if they would like them simplified?

You can see with the Lepin instructions, for instance, they put many more steps on a page than Lego does, for instance.

As a teacher, I see things being "dumbed down" all the time. People rise or lower to the expectations given.

As a similar, I have noted the recommended ages for complexity of Lego sets has seemingly increased. I'm not that old but the 16+ sets would have been 12+ not that many years ago.
I am looking forward to starting the build, can see it being quite fun too with the small 1x1 bricks being tiny. I will put a comparison photo of a normal lego piece. (comparison photos added)
My eldest, she is 13, is planning to help me with the build & after leafing through the build booklet she commented on how the build steps have quite a lot of pieces rather than the few with her lego/lepin builds.

Found this thread after my daughters spent some xmas and birthday money on a few sets over the weekend including the death stareek Also prompted me to rebuild a load of other ships that were in bits. Fancy the ucs MF but it's the size thats an issue there. May take a punt on the red five xwing when they are back from new year. All looks to be pretty good quality stuff.

Oh i did asking him that.

In Portugal the limit for no taxation is 20€ so i asked him to mark the package with a value lower than 20 bucks. He didn't acknowledge it, but from what i read from other people who ordered from Toys Factory, he does mark the packages with a low value.

Let's see if it works. I've heard reports that customs still randomly opens boxes of suspect size and a box with ~2000 pieces inside is sure to raise some eyebrows...
In talking with a DHL agent on the telephone when I was asking about one order he went through the list of what was happening with the package and "it was X-rayed" was one of the things he could tell on his computer. They may X-ray everything - much like at the airport - that way they do not have to open anything and the packages do not get tampered with. It would save a lot of time and effort.

I hope it works out for you - Toys Factory does have one of the nicer looking Aliexpress store fronts (that would seem to indicate they care a bit more and put more effort into their business - but how quickly they ship and the quality of their packing counts for more in reality). I have noted for Canadian shipping and item prices, that H&H is cheaper than Toys Factory.

I ordered the Lepin Death Star for Christmas (off Ebay) and ended up with a Lele one after 2 fake tracking numbers and numerous delays …

The Lele one has no problems to the build, so far.

The minifigures shown the image you linked to shows the NEW mini figures Lego has in the newest version of the Death Star. Makes me wonder if the pictures are just taken off a Lego box and reused or if that is a new version based on the newest build (which is essentially the same with new figures).

The Lele one has the original figures (old hair and eyes just being black dots with no white highlight).

Where did you hear about an "updated" version?

I see the Item Number is different as well! The "old" one is 05035.

Good morning all,

finally a forum to share our experience with bootleg building blocks from China ...

I am living in Thailand and was ordering from AliExpress like everybody else ... But after getting nearly every packages blocked by customs and having to pay not reasonable amount for duty taxes, I decided to look for an alternative way to obtain my bootlegs.

Living in Thailand is I guess easier than in Europe. I went to China town in Bangkok and found a great shop that was selling bootlegs and 20% cheaper than on AliExpress, and with the boxes ! And no more dealing with customs.

You can guess how happy I am. I am a big fan of Star Wars, Modular buildings, boats and trains ... But frankly there are so many interesting stuff, I will need to work till I am 100 year old to afford all those !

Here is my actual project, the UCS Tie Fighter 05036. Enjoy your builds. I found so far Lepin to be the best, just some minor mistakes for the color matching and some pieces missing.

Here is my Tie Fighter UCS finished. This thing is big and very well done. No pieces were missing, only 3 small pieces were the wrong color.

Looks like it's caught the attention of the masses now, expect prices to start rising as demand soars or for Lego / AliExpress to really stamp on it.

Crap! This comes a day after me learning about the existence of this stuff. Was going to order a ucs set after the Chinese new year but should I now not bother in case aliexpress pull the plug on it?

You might as well order it, it'll probably take a little while for the cogs to move between all parties.

Had 05027 on order with Dollhousebuilder which was pre-order. Just checked and missed a message just before Christmas to say that as the package contains a magnet, they cannot ship it - so sending refund (which I don't recall seeing!).

Has anyone else ordered/received one?
