Hi,

some pictures of my finished Imperial Shuttle UCS from Lepin.

What was supposed to be fun to build turns out to be more painful than necessary.

Lepin gave the correct number of plates but the wrong size for a lot of plates (like providing 1 x 12 plates instead of 1 x 8 plates). As I built this model away from home, I didn't have spare parts available, so I had to cut some plates. And because I didn't know what was needed, I just cut plates randomly and put some wrong color (you will notice a lot of black areas on the wings that are supposed to be white ...).

In total probably around 50 plates were the wrong length or color ...

When I will go back home I will have to remove the wrong plates and put back the right one.

Also, as I am very hard on myself for details, some white block looks already yellowish. A good clean of the final product is quite necessary if you want the best display effect. Right now, from afar it is good, not so much when you come closer.

Anyway, lucky for Lepin, I am a big fan of Star Wars ... The Tie Fighter UCS was perfect, not so much this one.
Maybe you were given a couple of wrong bags. Seen a few reviews of this set and problems were noted.

Started The Simpsons house tonight. Get the feeling it's going to be a fun build.

Now that looks organized!

I started my UCS Falcon and still have the parts in their original bags in the box it came in (just sorting through them and pulling out the bags I need). Got to step 22. It would be a lot easier to have them sorted, but I was rather excited to get started!

I need to finish a set that is 98% done first then put the parts in the sorting bins from that one.

I went to a restaurant supply shop and bought clear cylindrical take-out tubs and lids for them - it was fairly cheap - about 3 or 4 Pounds.

This is what I have found best for lego

http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/raaco-13-compartment-ass...

The little inner boxes can be lifted out in order to tip out the smaller pieces.
The lids can be closed when done for the night, and once the lid is locked, the contents can't move between inner boxes if the whole thing is tipped up.
I have two of them, which I find is enough for most lego sets, or at least with proper lego and the bigger sets, just the bags of the manual number that I'm currently assembling, i.e. don't open every single bag at once. Lepin don't have the numbers on the bags, but you just have to look inside them and refrain from opening them until you need them.
Also the way the lids sit when they are open, makes quite a good stand for the instructions, provided it's not one of the mega thick instructions like you get with the Architecture sets and so on.

Lots of fun building The Simpsons house. More relaxed and easier than the Slave 1.

Have a friend who got one of these Lepin sets and he was amazed by how good the bricks were so I looked it up my self and found Aliexpress.
For a very long time I have wanted to build the UCS MF and after a night of heavy drinking I ended up ordering:

  • LEPIN 20001 911 GT3 RS
  • LEPIN 05028 Star Wars UCS Super Star Destroyer
  • LEPIN 05026 Star Wars UCS Death Star II
  • LEPIN 05033 Star Wars UCS Millennium Falcon
  • LEPIN 05027 Star Wars UCS Imperial Star Destroyer
Waking up the day after I was pretty shocked what drunk-me had done and had a serious talk to my self (I think I am grounded for at least a year and consider installing an alco lock to my computer to deny access if drunk )
Im really looking forward to build these once they arrive but I got a little worried however. Placed the order from store "ToysLepin block Store" the Jan 25th and payment went well after one day. No progress since then but got a reply (in good english) today to keep calm smile Chinese Spring Festival so there is no transportation until Feb 6th.
Still not sure if I just got scammed or not I started googling and found this thread.
I just want to thank you guys for sharing your experience with Lepin and Aliexpress. I have read though the whole thread and there is loads of good information in here! Im pretty confident now that I will get the items even if it will take some time.

I will keep you guys posted when items arrive. Also, I haven't seen anyone getting deliveries to Sweden yet so I will have some info to share about customs charges (if any) and delivery time.

Going to be a huuge task to sort all the pieces to find out if I have any missing bricks.
Im not really worried about the bags not being numbered however. Its prat of the fun to sort and build, and even if you buy from Lego and get numbered bags, it will only help you the first time you build the model anyway smile

Cheers

I think you will find you will get the stuff faster than you thought it would be.

I took a look at the ToysLepin Block Store and they have good reviews and feedback.

Did you choose the DHL option for shipping? If so, delivery will be very fast and you will get a tracking number so you can watch it on the very quick journey and know when it is to be delivered.

I would suggest, since you have the time before it is shipped, to find out what your customs' limits are for duty and tax. Most Aliexpress block sellers seem to default to claiming a $20 (USA dollars) value claim. If Sweden has a higher limit than this before you have to pay duty and taxes you are all good! If, on the other hand, your country has a very low limit, like Canada which is at $20 Canadian (about $14.50 USD) and DHL will collect every cent you owe before releasing your package to you (and their handling fees on top of it all!).

I had a message from a seller that they wouldn't deal with (my order) until Feb 8th, so I think that's likely for all of them at the moment.

Would be interested to hear if you actually get 05027. The seller I ordered mine from said that DHL refused to ship it as the set contains magnets (which is does).

In the process of trying to get a refund, but frustratingly has taken so long I'm out of buyer protection (having extended it twice already) frown

A very good point!. Will have to look in to this.

Same here. According to the seller it is not the store that is the problem but the transportation. They have halted all deliveries until after holidays.

Now that you mention it I remember other people having that same issue. I sent a question to the seller about it now and also asked if possible to remove the magnets.

they're tiny and not particularly strong (ie not neodymium) so it's pretty strange they won't ship them.
Might be worth checking if they'll post the magnets instead.

Built a bit more of my Decool GT3 last night and found an error in the instructions!

It was on the uprights for the start of the roll bar/cross brace. The left hand side said to use a part that was 3 or 4 holes shorter than the right hand side! It was quite annoying to have to take it apart to correct.

Still, no parts missing yet!

It does amaze me that whilst they are more than happy to copy the kits, they don't just copy the instructions too?

Especially when they are freely available in pdf form.

http://lego.brickinstructions.com/en/lego_instruct...

also available on the Lego site itself:

It could have to do with legal troubles that were foreseen by the companies. Perhaps they were wise and consulted some law firms with what they were going to do and how they could avoid losing court cases in China.

I have a Lepin Advanced TIE Fighter and A-Wing set & the lepin instructions are the worst I have come across so far.
The colours on the pages are poor to the point its hard to tell light grey, dark grey and black apart.

As the kids will be helping/building I have ordered a set of Lego instructions for them to leaf through during the build.
Just finished a block count & apart from changing the spring firing bricks for Lego bricks all bricks are present.
