They will go for a fortune!!
Do not be tempted to take offers, let the auctions run. People will try to rip you off on the hope that you don't know their value.

Around 8 years ago a lad at work found what he described as an old radio control car he had years ago, but knew nothing about it.
It was built but not perfectly, painted badly and not complete.
I asked him to bring it in so I could have a look and try to ID it, as he was thinking of selling it.

I quickly realised it was a Blazing Blazer, and even then in the state that it was it was worth a lot of money!
I think he sold it near instantly for about £500 on the Tamiya forum.

I'd expect these mint one to go for silly money

These really need to go on eBay to get anywhere near their potential value

My guess is that someone will get these for a relatively low price.

They are being sold in a live auction with no internet or phone bidding facilities.

I sold the empty box for mine on EBay years back for £100. That should tell you a lot!

OP - is there anything to stop the old couple giving you instructions to set a high reserve on these lots?

From the story you have posted I suspect that the maximum value is perhaps not the old couples main objective here but it could well be (from what others have posted) a significant sum that they could use for good in their late son's name.

It would be awful to think of someone picking them up for £500 a pop as they were 30 miles down the road for the auction when there are many who would pay more than double that if only they could bid on line...

I am also assuming that commission bids can be made and if that is correct you would do well to point that out where you have posted about them.

Good luck in getting the best price for them.

Re posting details of the auction on here i put it to you in the strongest possible terms of recommendation that you do so, Something makes me think that the Mod in charge of this sub forum will not be able to read your post properly but even if they did spot it might forget to do anything about it in the circumstances.

Apologies, I have been a busy boy!

I will try and answer a few questions.

We have been instructed to sell them by the owners. As far as they are concerned, they want it all gone. They have no idea of value and neither did I until this thread. I'm still gobsmacked by the way. When they entered the items I asked them to consider putting reserves on the kits at least, they declined and asked for us just to sell everything. I feel the sum they make is irrelevant to them. Albeit, they didn't know the value. Rest assured I most certainly won't let them sell too cheaply. I just wish I was on commission!hehe

After finding out what I have(thanks to you guys) people have been spreading the word. I have had around 20 different people contact me regarding coming to the sale, all contact coming via here. I know of a couple of people coming from quite a distance.

Regarding what they make, our auction is a strange place with a lot of extremely knowledgeable people attending. We sell everything from boxes of utter crap to extremely valuable antiques. In most cases, things generally make close to what they are worth. I genuinely hope that is the case with these.

As I have stated previously, these are nothing to do with me and I won't make a penny from the sale so surely there can't be any harm in posting the details. If a mod has an issue with this then please delete this post and accept my apologies.

The auction starts at 6pm tomorrow night(30th). The cars are expected to be sold somewhere between 7-7.30pm.

The address is
Kingsland Auction Services
Shirlheath
Kingsland
Leominster
Herefordshire
HR6 9RL

Telephone number is 01568 708564

Obviously the girls in the office won't know much about them but if there is anything specific you need or want to know then ask to speak to me and I will try and do what I can. Obviously I am no expert so likely won't be able to tell you much.

Regarding commission bids, yes we do accept them on the understanding you have viewed the item beforehand. That way IF anything is missing or not as expected then you only have yourselves to blame.

I am genuinely very grateful for the help you have given me, I honestly can't thank you enough. If any of you do attend then I will happily buy you a cup of tea/coffee. It's not very good but I am told it's the thought that counts!laugh

I hope to see you there.

Built one for sale now. Gives you an idea of value.

NIB would be a lot more.

Makes me sad that this is just going to be sold to line someones elses pockets.

That Blazer is very overpriced - try looking at completed listings, not ones that haven't sold
I could list a crisp packet for £15000, that doesn't make it worth it!

Exactly,

I have no doubt these will fetch decent money regardless. There are enough people interested and it only takes two. Had this gone under the radar then maybe the auction wouldn't have done them justice.

That said, dropping big money on vintage Tamiya's is more of a risk/less attractive these days because they've all been gradually getting re released, the jury is out whether the blitzer and hilux will ever get re-released though, even if they are already half way there with the Bruiser release.

Good luck to them, it's such a shame about the circumstances.

I am happy to tell you they have both been sold. Even better than I could have expected thanks to you guys!

We did have a couple of PHers attend.clap

One kit sold for £1350 plus the fee's to one of our regular buyers. As it turns out, this one had a little damage to the blister pack.

The other sold too but as I believe it was a fellow PHer bought it, I won't disclose how much for. If he would like to share that with you, then no doubt he will.

All the other RC stuff entered by them also sold extremely well. This included lots of Tamiya parts. I think the vendors will be very happy!

Again, I would just like to say a massive thankyou to all of you who have been in touch, Spread the word and given me advice. I am truly grateful!bow I will happily buy any of you guys a beer if our paths ever cross.beer

Thankyou.

I haven't spoken to the vendors personally(been busy having 2 auctions per week, tonight I broke my personal highest sale price at £11200+vat, woohoo you can always rely on a hilux!) but I kind of want to hand deliver their cheque myself! biggrin

Having a quick look through the figures today, from a boot full of "junk" they were half expecting to take to the tip, they will be recieveing a cheque for over £3200 with the fees deducted.

There was one other Tamiya model that made £70 or £80, I don't know what it was but it was 1/24 scale and a Porsche shell. I really liked it so I may have to find one myself!biggrin There was also a box with 2 incomplete cars(1/10 buggies of some sort) which made £310. I wish I knew more about this stuff!

I am genuinely over the moon for them!clap

Thanks again for the part you all played in this, without your input, knowledge and word spreading ability, they wouldn't have sold anywhere near as well as they did. It's good to know there are still some genuine, non-mouthpiece people on here!thumbup
