Much difference between makes, Netgear, Tp-link etc?
Any other recommendations?

For most stuff very little, though the "pecking order" is debatable.

Depends what you want it for to be honest.

Until you start using features, they are all pretty much the same.

If you are just connecting a bunch of devices to the same network and they all need to talk to one and other, then any will do really.

I use TP-Link kit, proved very reliable, usually better value than Netgear/D-Link etc.

Are you planning on running the HDMI over ethernet through the switch? You'll need HDMI over IP in order to do that, normal HDMI over ethernet can't be used.

1 hdmi over ip sender capable of multicast and 14 hdmi over ip receivers capable of multicast
That sounds like about £3-4k worth of kit, i would not risk having it crippled by a consumer grade switch

What he said. What protocol are you using? A standard switch won't work with HDMI over CAT5 or HDbaseT.

I've supplied the system before to 8 points but never 14, cost is less than £1k (to the installer)
Fingers crossed it will be ok with 14.

There is a plan to make this work in the future however you cannot send video balun signals via a switch.

OP did you do this with IP cameras last time?

HDMI signals sent over Baluns send a voltage that the switch will not like!

I would get a 14 way HDMI DA or lots of multiple units, the 14 separate Cat5 Transmitter and receiver kits. These wires need to be direct.

If it is showing a DA you may need HDCP compliant devices too.

I would get a pro in if I were you before you cause a fire.

If you are using the lenkeng or clone hdmi ip adaptors i'd go netgear unmanaged, they work well, tp link both managed and unmanaged misbehave with those after a while, also they don't play nice with sonos, even the unmanaged tp link ones don't handle stp packets reliably

The pro is installing it I only supply.

Spec quotes

One-to-many using Gigabit switch
HDMI loop-out for local display monitoring
360 degree IR for responsive source control
Quick install plug & play design
Wall mountable for tidy installations

Holy god and he calls himself a pro!! I wouldn't supply the kit if I were you as he will blame you when it doesn't work!

If it works with an 8 port switch why is it going to burn the house down with a 16 way switch?

Because what you describe can't work with the same thing you have described you need the 14 to work.

You want HDMI over Cat5 via a network switch. It cannot be done!

But it can be done and I've supplied them before with 8 way routers, so why not with a 16?

What kit are you supplying? How do you send the HDMI and then receive it at the other end?

It is possible but the trade cost for a transmitter and even just 8 receivers is a lot higher than £1k.

Just for clarity, what was it you supplied. Just the switch or the whole kit?

The only systems I know (and used) need a layer 3 switch with a whole bunch of high end capabilities that are not usually found on even middle grade switches.

I tend to stick to Cisco or what ever the HDMI/IP manufacturer prefers, my last one was about £600 just for the 24port Poe switch.

If you can give more info we might be able to help.
