Hi,

After nearly 8 years of being a very happy Google Play Music user (coming from Spotify before that), I'm now going to move to another service.
The reasons for this are mainly two fold, in this order:
  • Family subscription, my wife and I listen to nothing else and are often taking over eachothers stream. This is the main reason. (google offers it but not in Belgium)
  • Integration with my receiver (Onkyo), this would negate my chromecast audio and less devices is always better, right?
Right now, reading reviews, I'm leaning towards Deezer. I also read that Deezer, like play music, allows you to upload your own library to listen to it on any device, is this still not available on Spotify?

Anybody who can give me any pointers. Like I said, I used spotify almost a decade ago and I remember the interface to be clunky, much like iTunes (if you want to copy any user interface, that's one hell of a place to start rolleyes). That said, Play Music played in the browser only so...

PS: I deliberatly narrowed it down to these two for the two reasons. No others meet these criteria.

I have Spotify Premium Family, £15 for 6 accounts is pretty good value as far as I am concerned.

The main reason I went for Spotify was because I didn't even look at Deezer after their adverts annoyed me (that type of advert is pretty much guaranteed to make me avoid a company, perhaps I'm weird). I use one account, my wife has another and my father in law uses one of the others. In Spotify you can select the download option and it will save all of the songs to that device, if I knew that earlier, I probably would have signed up months before. Without the downloading, I probably wouldn't have got Spotify as the main time I use it is in the car to and from work.

I just went from Play Music to Spotify because Amazon Echo doesn't support Play Music and it is a right pain in the arse to move playlists etc over. I couldn't find anything to do it properly. In the end I had to make a playlist with one song from each album and import it into Spotify and then go into each song and add the album. If there are only 2 of you and you like the service then I'd be tempted to just get 2 subs and pay $5 more.

Already found it, this handy script did it in seconds biggrin

I made a Deezer account and a new spotify account, spotify has Spotify Connect though which seems like a better solution for my receiver than the Deezer solution.

Will test it out, really digging the Win 10 app for Deezer though.

It's not just the two of us though. I stayed with Play Music all this time because I've got an old grandfather scheme, paying only $8/month.

Pretty sure you can upload your own music with Spotify now but only using a computer, hard to remember as I normally use it with my mobile or get Alexa to do everything. Something like add local music from memory.

Never tried Deezer but my sister has been using it for years and she wants to move to Spotify as she's finding Deezer a bit unreliable and she thought my offline facility was much slicker than the Deezer equivalent.

Works just like the chromecast, so better than expected!

I've got Deezer, it's alright and on par with Spotify and Apple Music. The choice of albums/artists is pretty decent. Only gripes I have is the user interface can be annoying at times, I download music to the app rather than stream and it seems to prefer you stream. The app doesn't always pick up where you left off and also sometimes it needs to buffer music you've already downloaded. Sometimes downloads seem to drop off as well and need to be re downloaded. Moving to Apple Music soon but that's because I have 6 months free

I used Deezer, then Spotify, now Apple Music.

All much of a muchness IMO, except Apple Music interfaces much more reliably with Carplay in my Leon.
