Hi All,

Have just finished my first model in I don't know how long (well not finished, I only assembled the plastics and avoided the decals - just like I used to do when I was younger...) It's a Tamiya Alfa 155 DTM and I think I have the bug.

I would like to make a few specific models, all from my childhood that have memories linked to them.

Renault 5 TL - My dad raced these just before I was born, the year prior to them being switched for the Turbo models
Renault 21 turbo - Again because of my dad, he had one as a company car and its one of the first things I remember being in and thinking wow, this is quick!
VW Golf GTI, mk2 8v big bumper - have a very specific memory again of my dad racing and MR2 up Wrotham hill near brands
Ford RS200 - Was the best thing for me when watching the rallycross at Brands and is my ultimate if I could car

My dad was the one that got me into cars, an passed away suddenly a few years ago so something I could build to look like his old race cars etc would be cool.

Any ideas where I can buy kits for these, if I can at all? Guessing the RS200 an Golf will be easier...

One last thing, I live in Japan so may be a bit tricker! That said I am happy to order back home and get them posted to me or collect when next back.

Many thanks

As far as your subjects are concerned, it depends which scale you wish to make. 1/43rd has a much greater range of cars, especially the more obscure types. 1/24th, especially plastic, is much more limited.

For the Renaults I believe Heller covered these cars. Revell did a Mk2 Golf but it was an earlier "small bumper" version. Scale Production do a conversion. The RS200 has only been done in resin at this scale, you can find it made by, I think, Reji model.

As you live in Japan there is no finer place to source eclectic kits from bricks-and-mortar stores, but on-line you might try MediaMix Hobby, Hobby Search, Domino.be, Hiroboy and Grand Prix Models.

I started building an ESCI Renault 5 Alpine 1/24 a long time ago. It is still part-built in the box because I ruined the paintwork and then got distracted. I also built a Tamiya VW Golf Gr 2 racer 1/24. I don't know if that is the Golf you are looking for.

Last year I went to Tokyo and couldn't resist Akihabara hobby shops. I came home with a stack of mint, still sealed Tamiya 1:12 F1 racers!

Thanks for the help guys, Hobby link just came back with they don't have anything like i am after.

I will start doing some hunting around through shops here, there is one fairly close to my house, and many others too - Tokyo is only a few hours away also.

Italeri have just announced the re release of their Renault 5. Probably a horrid 80s kit but beggars cant be choosers

HERE

Revell and Fujimi Produce MK2 Golf kits, admittedly small bumper-ed versions. However there is a big bumper transkit for the revell kit from
SCALE PRODUCTION

The Fujimi kit should be easy to find in Japan I would have thought.

Reji Model do a resin RS200 (bonkers money).

Do you have a connection to this website? You've linked to it twice now.

Depending how deep your pockets are a company called Reji do a RS200

http://www.spotmodel.com/product_info.php?products...

It's resin which makes it a bit more challenging than plastic.

Have a look around that site though, thy are great for Rally Cars.

The other great site for the UK is www.hiroboy.com and they do a lot of accessories. Happy shopping!

They show that Revell did a Mk2 Golf as a plastic kit as well as a few others...
