He was at Nine Elms. If you know the scene then you might recognise the chap next to him here...

And yes Sliver Fox - what I have will be treasured! I'll try to find a pic or two.

Is that you dad? West Country class - brings back memories, I used to go up to Waterloo train spotting during the last days of steam, somthing to do basically, my dad worked for LT so we got free tube travel. Southern were the last to use it in anger...
Yep - that was early 60s I think, don't have exact dates on photos. And yes I was dragged around all over to see locos. Good memories.

You beat me to it!!.
Got to know Bert Hooker quite well, funny story but a bit spooky coming up. He visited our club a few times and often stayed overnight. Absolute gentleman. Anyway, it was at the time his second book came out and i got a copy which he signed for me.just 'Bert Hooker, Engineman. Nine Elms'. We talked about the 1948 exchanges where he was the fireman selected, and about his first book. Try as i might i could not get a copy, and when there was the big open day at Old Oak some years ago, as my son was exhibitng there, got in early before the crowds, wandering round the stands found a s/h copy of Berts first book, for a fiver, quiickly snapped it up and opened it, and it was a signed copy!!.

It is - judging by your location you might see him every now and then down at the Bluebell. He is a lovely, lovely man. Dad was a regular mate to him, Hooker, Fordrey and Hooper amongst others. Dad had a great habit of writing letters that he never sent. I have a couple that I've typed up relating to Hooper and Fordrey about finding top speeds. I pop them up if you're interested.

Nice when that happens - I have a pre-print of Clive's book (not even sure he ever published it) with all my Dad's comments scrawled all over it.

However, type in merchant in the search and look at the kit of parts for £1700.
Absolute steal, would be worth taking up turning just to finish it. He may have also driven Kg Arthers and N15/U1 etc. Thse are for sale on her as well.
Bit derer than an Airfix though!

Good stuff. thanks. Before he passed away we'd been working on a garden layout using two Cheddar live steamers a Goliath and another (name escapes me - see my post from page 39 of this thread...

We had a 3-1/2 inch gauge which we gave away when he died - no room to keep and it needed a lot of work still. Funnily enough he wasn't that fussed about models of his previous drives preferring instead something that he could get a really useable and well scaled garden railway. We also has some Basset Lowkes but had to sell them some years ago when interest rates hit 15% - house or model railway? tough call!

Hello, bit of a change - This is gas fired and remote controlled. I bought it for my Dad but he passed away so I'll be using it with my kids. Going to put a basic loop in the garden in the coming year. iPhone photos I'm afraid.
