Functional Fan car
My God that's brilliant! Reading the thread you link to though, I'm not surprised it doesn't work. If only one could find a way of powering the fan direct, without going through the spur gear, that must create some drag.It would work better with a Chapparal 2J which has two fans, where you would have room for one shaft going down each side. And of course an additional motor to power them.
Still, fair play to the man for thinking it all up!
P.S. I wonder how many people don't know that Ross Brawn was once a slot racer?

I took some more pics of my Victory prototype progress:
Here I have Kirsten, my step daughter (looking as though a gun is pointed to her head) helping to give a sense of scale:
Cannons are now all in place:
Soon be finished........
Kirsten looks peeved, is she small? Here I have Kirsten, my step daughter (looking as though a gun is pointed to her head) helping to give a sense of scale:

That model looks very impressive and plenty of detail there. Is it plastic with all parts ready coloured, I can't decide?

It is a wooden model. Mostly wood but with a lot of brass photo-etched parts, too:

Chris, just fantastic!
But.. isn't that going to be very difficult to break? (component wise).
How do you mean 'break'?But.. isn't that going to be very difficult to break? (component wise).
The designs are already done. I designed all of the parts in CAD using plans and much extra research and then the company I work for (AMATI Models of Italy) get the parts laser cut (and photo etched), and send the parts to me. I then start to build the prototype, and alter the designs as I go along, if changes are required or I think of a better way of doing something - or if during further research I find that a particular component is wrong and needs re working - this has happened a lot with this one... I turned the four different sizes of cannon myself on my lathe and sent the 'masters' off to Italy, where they were then cast and the cast cannon (over 100) were shipped back to me.
I have no intention of 'breaking' this model once complete - I've been working on it since last September full time! All the designs are safely on my PC and back up discs...
RichB - Thank you! It is one of the Victory Models range from AMATI. I still have the model to finish and then sort out the thousands of construction pics I have taken throughout the build into a construction manual in Quark Express, plus write down the full parts and materials list and draw the full size plans for masts, rigging, hull etc. in CAD. I would imagine this time next year it will become available to buy as a kit.
I completed the ships boats designs a few weeks back, and the parts came back to me this week:
Along with my cannon barrels:
And depth markings:
I think I'll do a Leda Class frigate next, only one gun deck... lol

he had a pro slot racer use it and managed a faster time than his regular car..
But if he had done it for scalextric digital then he could have just used 2 motors. kept the fan motor directly connected ( always on ) and the drive motor on through the chip.

Didn't realize you were actually designing the parts as well. Are you using AutoCad or something else? How do you draw each piece in Cad, have you got full scale plans to work from? This is much, much more than just a hobby then and there must be a huge amount of work involved in the design, which is presumably in 3D.The designs are already done. Very impressive!
It is my job - I design new kits for the retail market (for almost 20 years now!)- Victory is one of the latest. Yes, the designs are in CAD, usually starting from copies of original plans scaled down from 1:48 to whatever scale particular scale the kit will be - in Victory's case, 1:64th scale, giving a hull length of around 1 metre, and 1.6 metres when bowsprit and mizzen boom are added. The lines are then 'dissected' into component parts and shapes that make up the model. This one has taken three times as long as any other due to the internal deck detail - all decks are fully detailed - it is intended to be a 'modeller's model', who love the building process. I hope....Very impressive!
It all helps towards my new TVR Tamora fund...
